I always try to use propper grammar, but there really isn't much of a point on message boards.  As long as your grammar is good enough so that people can understand what you're saying, you're good to go.  You come here to have fun, not have the grammar police riding your ass.

Your's isn't the worst I've seen, i think you should add more than just "topic" to the threads you make though. (not really talking about this one)

spell check is used for a reason.

it seems as though most on the internet have really bad cases of verbal diarrhea.

Only if it's completly incoherent babble to the point of no one is capable of understanding what they are getting at.

Example: How is I?

It's not a huge problem, but it can be incredibly annoying trying to read someone's post if their grammar and/or spelling is poor.

I'm an English Education major, but I'm not really supersensitive about grammar like some other teachers. I think you need to know proper grammar for school work and professional settings, but if your grammar slacks at home, online, etc., then I don't think it's a big deal. As long as I can understand what you're saying, we're cool. Horrible spelling bothers me more, but I blame that on my years of spell bowl...

You can't flip a magical switch and become a good writer at a whim. If your writing sucks in forums, it will probably suck when you try to write in 'professional' settings too. Spell check and grammar check don't make you a good writer either. Practice does.

It is not a big problem depending on the context in which it is written, if it is written for a specific audience then you might have to be formal in what you write and careful in what you say. But this is a message board, so informal or colloquial language is allowed, just as long as it's not overdone.

In any case as long as your message is understandable it's ok.  That is just the thing though; a lot of things people say are incomphrehensible. Being a bit off is nothing to worry about but sometimes you get the impression that not only are some people not bothering with grammar but  they also seem to be going out of their way to make things harder to understand.

i think people who care about grammar are the problem. If employers spot it in their setting where it might matter then yes it would be an issue, but most of the time not. Here on these forums I've seen people's entire point missed from a paragraph cause s/he spelled one word wrong. So instead of getting a proper response all the person gets is: "you spelled that wrong."
