If a cavemen saw a snake, and had no idea what a snake was, if he didn't fear the snake and just went to pet it, he would die. However, the cavemen who feared the snake, would have ran away and not die. So would fear be a good thing?

I agree having too much fear is bad though, it holds you back. A good balance is healthy

Or, if the caveman had a spear, he could have killed the snake. Overcoming ones fear, important lesson

If you have a fear, then you have a reason. So most of the time the thing that the fear originates from is probally threating towards you in some way.

Fear is something that keeps you from getting killed. In the military people are taught that they will be afraid but it is normal; adrenaline junkies who claim to have no fear are either lying or have something wrong with them. It just gets bad when that fear turns into cowardice. In the 1990s Batman series they had an episode where the Scarecrow made a gas that took people's fears away. Needless to say, the people who were affected did things that could have got them killed or locked up.

Truly fearless people are normally psychopaths. But it is not good to let fear dictate your life. You need a balance.

Ehhhhhh...........You need to distinguish between knowledge/experience and fear. With the example you suggested, you are saying caveman being unaware about vicious nature of snake and doesnt act upon the danger Anyway on topic, fear can sometimes act as a good motivator and drive you to actions but phobia is bad

Fear is a natural instinct that makes us avoid danger, so I guess it is good to have.
