I keep hearing people trash-talking gamestop when, in reality, are not that bad. What do you think?

I seriously don't get how they stay open. They rip you off in the used game market (buying and selling) and they don't get anything in early due to regulations. Walmart is the only way to go. Why wait till 10am for GS to open for new releases when Wallyworld is open at 6?

I have to agree with you on this point.
Yes, their prices are terrible, service is terrible, they don't keep enough stock ... pretty much all three things you'd want from a store they fail at.duxupAlso, they rape puppies and grandmothers, giving them cancer :(

It's really bad when a video game store chain sucks as being a video game store isn't it?
It is insanity, and they make money.I gave up on going to Gamespot. There's a local game store where I live that gives better deals on used games.
Lets see my Gamestop horror storie went to buy Ar Tonelio 2 boxset new and they had nothing but the game then there all like NO WE WILL NOT GET YOU ANOTHER ONE even though they are the stupid ones who opened it and lost everything not me. Then I went to pick up a copy of Clock Tower 3 about 3 weeks ago told it's on hold for an employee then here we are 3 weeks later and the games still there. They sold me a case with no game once didn't get me another one. Once said that they would hold a game for me and sold it to someone else. I could go on but I'll stop there also since all they care about is money I'm surprised that they don't carrypsone rpgs anymore cause people still pay a bit for them

Wait, wait, wait
Your Wallyworld opens at 6 am? As in it actually opens? All the Wallyworlds I've ever been to stay open 24 hours.
I haven't been to my local Gamestop in over a year, but that's because I stopped buying games in general. Didn't have the money to spend on a new system, and I bought the used games I've wanted to play (well, most) so there was no reason to keep going. Though, there were a few times when the lack of customer service at that store forced me to stay away for months at a time until they changed the staff (which happened frequently).
One instance that comes to mind was when I was going to pick up God of War 2 the day it came out. There had to be at least 50 people waiting to buy the game and yet only one register was open and the guy on it was a recent hire. The thing that bugged me was that there had to be at least five other employees in the store that day but they were all in the manager's office having themselves a good time listening to music and joking with each other. There were even former employees just going in and out of that office like they still worked there, grabbing goodies reserved for customers who pre-ordered other games as they left. To make it worse, one of the manager's was in the middle of all that revelry, no caring that she had a growing line of impatient customers. She even had the nerve to come out of the office laughing, answered a phone call quickly, then turns to the obviously frustrated dude at the register and says, "Wow, can you believe this? The whole gang is back there together again." And then walks back into the office. :| I swore right there that as soon as I picked up my game I wouldn't buy another thing from that store until these idiots were gone/fired. Unfortunately, I had to wait another five minutes after paying for my game because the register ran out of paper before it could print my receipt and the guy couldn't find where they stored the paper.
The GS around my parts is pretty good. I trade in games only when I can capitalize on the deals and get 35-40% extra on my trades. I also buy used games there and again only when I can get a good deal. The only time I buy new from GS is when I preorder, because I know I will get a factory sealed copy. If I want to buy a new game anytime after release I head over to Bestbuy instead.
They are only terrible in used game trade in's where they basically give you 50 cents per game and resell it for 10000% profit. In prices they are generally better than any other store I have been to aside from Sams club (which is a warehouse bulk sort of store). Even Walmart is usually more pricey. I sometimes find a game at Gamestop marked down for 20 and at Walmart it's still 50 or 60 dollars. I also like buying used and I like that I can find games there that weren't incredibly popular and have been out for awhile and as such arn't generally carried at big stores like Target or Walmart.
I also hate that they constantly prompt me on getting an edge card or preordering something when I buy something there. It's like a Windows prompt or something.
Why does the customer's grammar matter?Horrible. Their customers don't even know how to spell "psyched." I've seen all sorts of jacked up spellings- siked, siychted, sikked, syked, etc. Until they teach their customers how to spell, they're not getting a penny out of me.

Why not, it's the cheapest way to get games from last gen that aren't even sold new anymore?I don't like any store that sells used games.

I don't shop there anymore, there's a much better local store in my city. One bad experience I had was I went to buy Pikmin New Play Control, and they ask "Do you want to get the Gamecube one instead? I say no then they ask, "Do you wanted the used Pikmin for Gamecube?" I say no again. So they say "Well, get it with a strategy guide for 5 dollars off?" Once again, no. So I finally buy it, and they always circle the receipt and say "Don't forget, trade it in when your done for credit towards a new game"
They also don't bother too look anything up. Someone asked when a new Guitar Hero was coming out while I was in line. The guy didn't even look it up, he just said no. GH: 5 was going to be out in a month. Also, the stupidest customer AND employee was when the customer asked when Super Mario Galaxy would be coming out on the 360, as it has been on the Wii for so long and they didn't own or like the Wii. The employee didn't look it up, and actually said "I think it's coming out soon because its been on the Wii for 2 years. Check back in a few days"
Guys, I've had nothing but great experiences at my local Gamestop. I guess its unusual. The guys working there are pretty cool, and actually know about games. We usually strike up a good conversation about the lastest game or whatever. And when I bought Scribblenauts they were out of the hats, so the guy gave me a couple of free Zelda and Metroid posters. :D
lol Walmart? In my opinion I think you get your money's worth paying for games at GameStop. I do agree that GameStop does rip you off sometimes when you trade in games which is why I don't trade in my games anymore. Hopefully GameStop will be around for many more years to come.I seriously don't get how they stay open. You can still find new copies online unless the game is really niche, and it supports the developer/publisher.
They're good to me.
Well the one in my neighborhood that is. :P
They don't bug me with tons of questions and they get the new games on the exact release date.
I have to wait a week or more before WalMart even gets the shipment. :|

I personally hate buying online. I guess I'm stuck in the old days but if I have any choice I always buy things in person unless I'm getting an insane deal online.
I buy used at gamestop because they allow me to return the game in 7 days for a refund if it's terrible. I'd buy new if it wasn't for that.
