Well if they have a gun or something and you shoot them in the face or something and they're dead it's fine. If it's like they try to punch you in the face and you break their arm and then smash their face... no.
Yes, I think it is alright because some situations call for it. Sometimes there is no other way to protect yourself from another person's intention of harm or just flat out mental instability.

Yes, but how about torturing for defensive matters? Say someone has kidnapped someone you love, and he doesn't want to say where he keeps him/her. Is it ok to torture the kidnapper in order to get where your loved one is?

Yes I am completely fine with it. I wont even bother attacking someone unless they throw the first punch or something crazy like that, because the rest will be hell for them, and it will be legal.
It depends entirely on the situation, for example, if a person is attacking you with fists and then you pull out an AK-47 and unload on him that would be murder on your part.
If its just something like another lame high school bully trying to threaten me I would just kick him in the nuts regardless of self defense or not, his reputation as opposed to mine would easily give me the odds of winning it over for self defense.
I notice a lot of you guys are saying yes but do you really think you could go through with killing someone? I can but I would try to find any other way to stop a person before going down that path. Do you think about that persons family? Maybe he/she has wife and kids and the person you just killed was the only income the family was getting. Now that family is gonna die on the street. Killing one person just led to the death of more.

I don't think anyone really knows until it happens. Additionally there are a lot of different situations where one might act, and one might choose not to act.

Its more than acceptable. If you can kill someone whose attacking you, by all means go all the way if you want.
If you don't, they're just going to get out of prison after a couple of months, maybe a few years, and he'll just attack someone weaker, kill them, and do what he failed to do to you to someone else.

Of course if you think your welfare is in serious danger. That being said self defense turning into murder can go over board sometimes. For example if i've gotten into a fight and I completly go nutz on the guy killing him yeah that's a crime. If a guy pulls a knife on another dude then that's putting anothers person's life in danger.

This, people seem a little "harsh" ie. saying it's ok to shoot a guy in the face if he punches you. As for coming into your house etc, a part of me says well he's only trying to steal your television, there's no need to kill him, beating him with a baseball bat or scaring him with your gun, though yeah he could have a gun etc. it really depends on the situation, but killing someone in self-defence shouldn't be intentional. If it was me personally I'd go downstairs, probably shoot a couple of shots to scare him off or shoot him in the leg or something, if he was standing there with a knife or my TV in his hand there's no way I'd aim at his head and shoot, that's just not reasonable (which might sound absurd since he's on your property) but the very worst that would come from the situation is you lose your television, is that really worth taking someone's life over so you can save your television? :lol: Thanks gamespot for messing up the html and removing the paragraphs :) Also reminds me of that shop worker who got arrested, his stored was robbed by some teenagers and he shot them both, they were both lying on the floor practically bleeding to death and they obviously posed no threat to the shop keeper at this point and he then walked over to them and shot them in the face. and people actually defended him.

Like if someone was just being a douche bag, that deserves a punch in the face or a kick in the nuts. But if someone was threatening to kill you or your friends or family, that deserves some killin in self defense. Yeah, ii does depend on the situation.
Hmm in the legal system it is okay to kill in self defence, but it depends on the situation, if they come at you with a knife or a gun then it will be okay to, but of course thats only in the legal system, I think it is not okay to kill someone in self defense only to knock them out, then call the police or something, I think that killing should be the last resort, if all other options fail.
