I will be homeless until I find a job there. I was planning on just living in my car until I do. But I remembered NYC is mostly TAxis and stuff. Are they parking meters everywhere? Because I wont have the money. Is it stupid to take my car to NYC to live in? Or should I not take my car? Take a bus there and rely on taxis for the rest of my life? I would prefer takign my car, but if you have to pay a parking meter 24/7, I cant afford that.

Its pretty much impossible to find parking for free anywhere in NYC.

If you havent already found a job in NYC, it would be a very risky mistake to go first and then attempt to find a job.

The stupider thing is to move to a place like New York with no housing, no job and no security lined up.

Don't move to New York? Seriously, I don't see this ending well. I would try to find someone to stay with (not necessarily in New York) until I could find a job and living arangements.

new york has unique rules - basically, you pick where you can park. the cops there don't hold too much power so if they tell you to move you can just stay there living in your car would probably be better than living anywhere else. i suggest doing that even when you do find a job - apartments aren't really worth it considering how much they're worth goodluck, i lived in my car in new york for about 4 years.

Your not going to find a job without a home address. Big cities can be very dangerous if you don't know the safe areas. Living out of your can won't be fun. How are you gonna take a shower? Cops will mess with you if they catch you sleeping in your car. Best advice is don't do it.

You don't have to sleep on the street.  You could always sleep on the subway.

very stupid/ bad idea. I mean being homeless and living out of your car is bad enough and you should work hard to improve that situation but if you are gonna be homeless and living out of your car NY is not the place you want to be doing it.

Very much this, New York is a very expensive place to live so attempting to go from homeless to a decent living is not advised there. The steps should be: 1. Acquire Job 2. Move to New York Not the opposite.

Buy a tent and go live in central park somewhere that no one ever goes. I'm pretty sure it's big enough to be relatively undisturbed.

Plenty of Parking in NYC.

NYC is made of five boroughs (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island and Queens) The more iconic aspects of NYC such as skyscrapers and taxis are mostly prevalent in lower Manhattan. The other boroughs are more residential and Staten Island itself is quite suburban. The only thing you have to look out for is street cleaning, which bans parking on certain streets for a couple hours out of the day and traffic cops who's single aim is to ticket cars.

Keep the car. It will be useful when you start giving BJs for $20 to survive. It'll be better than behind a bush in the park. Good luck with the move.

Unless you plan on suddenly becoming a millionaire and making a high six or seven figure salary, you can't afford to live in New York City. Renting something the size of a closet there will probably cost you 100K or more a year.

Despite what you've seen in movies and TV shows, NYC is really just a playground for super rich a$$holes. Normal people can't afford to live there.

Odd, my sister-in-law isn't a millionaire and has lived there for 25 years (and not in a ghetto ether). I mean her and her husband make pretty decent money between them, but nowhere near high six or seven figure.

The TC posted nothing that indicates that he's going through a hard time. Rather what he posted is that he stupidly intends to put himself in a very avoidable positition in which he will be going through a hard time.
