no, they technically do have better sound quality than standard MP3s but for portable devices mp3s are better as you don't tend to get the best sound quality anyway through portable devices and if you really want top quality you can use OGG

CDs will always sound better than MP3s. Given that you're getting a real CD, and not a burnt CD. MP3s are watered down CD rips. If you're talking FLAC, then thats a different story.
The only reason I buy cd's these days is because I just want to actually own a hard copy and have the art work, but only albums that I think a really good... definitely not to actually listen to them. Except maybe in the car.
