Are there really any morals that we should live by? I mean really, we're just animals like the rest of the things on this planet, and we don't matter beyond the needs of ourselves. Of course, nobody wants to be killed, so do you feel you shouldn't kill to honor that wish, or maybe it's a thing where they won't kill you if you don't kill them. Or is a human concience virtually worthless in the scope of the universe?

Well, we technically we are animals, but we are way more advanced then regular animals, so it's almost like we aren't animals, so we shouldn't be forced to such animalistic ways such as killing, But if someone else gets too intuned with their primative side and tries to attack you, you are forced to become more like an animal yourself,

I did not use a single . only ,

There is no way of living by a specific set of morales. If you treat people how you wish to be treated back, then that would be the closest this you can have to a kind set of morales. Other than that it gets too subjective and misunderstood.

I just don't kill people because of empathy, not respect. If I hurt someone I often feel some of that hurt myself... after awhile.

I am a christain. However, I attest to the fact that humans have an "animalistic" side to them. That said, whether your an atheist or a believer, I think we can all agree that we, as humans, are superior to animals in every way and our morals keep us (relatively) happy, content, and at peace w/ one another. You have intelligence, and a degree of emotion which no animal can match, don't waste it submitting yourself to primative things like killing.

We have morals to benefit society. While morals can't be inherently correct, they are manifested by civilization to keep itself stable.

Good point, yet debatable.

not debatable, it's a fact.

Technologically.

Humanity is not as well adapted to our niche (which is pretty much everything now) as many other animal species have. We have been changing for quite a while now, evolving into different species every million or so years, while species like the shark have had very little change in their species for several hundred million years.

Edit: post above me fails, literally fails.

I don't think the debate is phrased correctly. Whether or not we are actual animals, it doesn't matter. We have sensations, lusts, for primative things. War, sex, etc. Yet, we consider (most of us anyway) consider this things wrong if they are done under the wrong circumstance. What animal can think that way? We have intelligence to create technologies to fly, go at high speeds, even create a virtual world. Can any animal do that? Yes, we may have an "animalistic" side, but humans are far to.....great, for lack of a better word, to be considered "barbarianistic."

Killing is always bad. But image a guy is hurting you family and he might kill them? What to do? Kill him before he kills your family.

Killing should always be an avoid option, but in extreme cases...

Yet we created the definitions of those words. So can we really be unbiased judges of ourselves?

Morals are created by society, which in turn is created by our more sophisticated thought process. Is it wrong to kill someone? In the law of the wild, no, but in the environment that we have created, yes it is. Our own evolution has made killing an act that is beneath us.

can you prove that?

When it comes to Jesus Christ, it's simple. It's historical fact that he died on the cross. Now when it comes to his messages during his life on earth and his resurrection, that can be supported by witnesses of that time.

A link to explain this is

When it comes to the law written in our heart, that can be explained

If morality is all subject to opinion, then there can be no wrong and no right. If my religion tells me that murder or sex with children is evil, and should not be condoned, but in someone else's opinion, it's wrong, then who am I to tell them otherwise? Why is murder wrong? Why is stealing wrong? Why is homosexuality wrong? If we didn't have religion, there would be no morality. (I understand that not everyone considers homosexuality to be wrong anymore, but that's exactly my point.)
