is it wrong to take your friends girl, if you really liked her before he did.

Me and this girl are close, and for some reason I hesitated asking her out. My friend(I use that term loosely, kind of a douche) asked her out and they began seeing each other. He does not know how I feel about her, and I have never said anything as far as they see it I am just a good mutual friend. The thing is they do not get along, every time they are together she looks gloomy, and gets excited when someone else shows up. He told me he thinks of breaking up with her, but wants to make it work. Also she seems to act like she likes me, texting me a lot, pulling me away from other girls(this is kind of annoying), and the kicker saying 'why can't he be like you'. I asked her to go out with me, and she said she would break up with him asap, I told her I was joking and then there was an awkward silence(she never knows when I am being serious).I have never really bought into the whole bros before hoes thing, especially when I am closer to the girl. Maybe I would be reluctant if it was a nicer guy, but he is an *hole. I asked her to hang out and I am really considering asking her out.
