most of the time yes, "older" music is by far much better than more modern music. I think this happens because in the "old" days artist spent months upon months working on a single song or creation, they gave everything they could give from themselves and that resulted in the creation of timeless and a lot of times flawless music. Unfortunately most artist these days rather not to give too much time in their work, and prefer to copy styles from other artists.

Yeah i know people like different things, but how can people like that garbage??
Maybe there is more music for more peoples tastes, but most of it is not really fun or easy to listen to.
Like it is hard to listen to lots of the new music, most people enjoy to listen to the depressing music.

How can people listen to that kind of music? Like Billy Talent and Simple plan, who ever listens to those bands all the time should get help to be happy.

What? Why?

Just because music is sad or whatever doesn't mean the people that listen to it are. I like Nine Inch Nails, alot of that is pretty bleak, and I am a happy person.

And in answer to how people like can like that music, well, they can. Some things just appeal to some people that don't appeal to others in any way. I don't like harsh metal stuff, so I can't tell you why people like it...

And in terms of depressing music, whats wrong with liking it, it is hardly unhealthy.

Usually people who listen to that music are sad people.
It is very unhealthy to like those bands.

Usually when people listen to those bands all the time they get sucidial, they think their life is so horrible, and they are just never happy anymore.
I used to listen to Nirvana a lot before, and that wasn't good music to listen all the time to.

Most of it is depressing, and made me a unhappy person.
Now though, I listen to happy music and not garbage and i am more happy then I have ever been.

Nope.
I made a thread last year about hip hop being better then all the other music and everything thats not hip hop was garbage.
Of course my mind has changed now, and i like all music.

I still like hip hop the most though :D

If you say that you don't like modern music, I assume you don't look enough!

Have any of you ever heard of Sigur Ros? It's a recent Icelandic group and they are VERY good!

Does anyone of you know Sufjan Stevens? I didn't think so no!

Mainstream music of today is total rubbish, but there's so much wonderfull music to find if you think outside the box.

I really agree that classical music (Bach, Mozart, etc) is WONDERFULL music, and to me it is epic, it just feels so epic and big!

But I think we romanticize the 80's and 90's a bit, those weren't that great!

That's what I personally miss in today's music, that epicness, the grandeur.

Sigur Ros has that in my opinion, you should listen to them!

Anyway, you cannot say it is better, it is, at most, different. Mainstream music of today is worthless, but there's gems to be found.

I mostly listen to metal (aggressive) and my favorite band is Lacrimosa, which is gothic, dark and depressive, I'm none of those things... :|

Personally, I like older music better than new music. I don't like the sound of modern music, with the exception of a few artists.
