Hmmm ... I'll say OT is a blend of democracy and dictatorship ( autocratic ) regime . Good thing is you enjoy your rights and freedom as long as you follow and obey the simple rules . Rules were created to stop anarchy from spreading . Bad thing is disobeying the rules means game over for anyone . ladies and gentlemen ? How do you define our favourite OFF TOPIC forum in political term ?

It's technically a dictatorship but the dictator is a bit detached and the majority don't recognise them.

[QUOTE="indzman"]Hmmm ... Rules were created to stop anarchy from spreading .

Is that how rules are created? As an opposition of anarchy? OR is it more likely rules are established to protect certain groups of people that are more valued than others.

It's dictatorship like every forum. The mods/admin deem what is or isn't acceptable and deal with it. And that's that.

Technically XoasII is probably correct in calling it an oligarchy. If it IS a dictatorship, I like to think it is a benign dictatorship.

Yeah I don't think there is anything democratic about this place. Except polls in threads.

I'd tag it as a totalitarian dictatorship I guess.

I would actually say OT (and GameSpot in general) is a liberal democracy. In a democracy, you have the rule of law. On GS, you have the rule of the ToU. Providing you abide by the ToU, just like abiding by the law in a democracy, you can enjoy your rights and freedoms. The mods, and even the admins, cannot simply do what they want (their power is constrained by the law of the USA for example, and the fact it's a business, it would have to be appealing to its market), contrary to what some may believe... at least I think so anyway. :P

It's not democratic at all. There's no vote to see if you get modded or not nor do you have any real say in the matter after.

In democracies, do you get a say in what happens in Congress, the Supreme Court, what the Executive does etc? Not really, yet, that's called democracy. It's the same thing here.

That has nothing to do with what I just said. I'm not talking about how the rules are set.

the people have little to no power over those in charge. they don't pick them nor do they have any real say towards law making. plus there are strict deportation laws in place.
