Do you think religion and the bigotry is bad or that without religion we would have much less charity?

I personally think that religion is dangerous because it's based on faith instead of rationality, I definitely oppose religion in politics.
However, religion isn't fundamentally bad, it can comfort and support people and it can give hope. Even if it's false hope and comfort in my opinion, it is beneficial to some people.

Religion and bigotry are not directly correlated in any way. Though some who practice religion may be bigots it is not religions fault. Sadly practising religion and faith doesn't always mean practising good moral values. A problem I have with alot of religious people today. But I don't hold it against religion itself, and all in all most religions do nothing more than teach good behavior and moral values through an iconic figure or literature and give people a little something to believe in every day which is a nice feeling to have im sure. I am a Agnostic Atheist but I still see alot of good in religion when it has good intentions.

Christian is one of example for good religion. Bible taught people to be friendly to each other and humble at same time.

Lol I think they are some sort of owl. But they almost resemble something you'd see in a creepypasta. That mean mugging one on the right creeps me out.

Considering how Christianity influenced European tribes to rise to sophisticated nations after the fall of Rome, and how Islam united Arabian tribes and people in the East, I think religion brought a fair amount of good. While religion has its fair share, secular nationalists had plenty of aggressive wars (WWI-WWII were purely out of secular nations, ib4 state's churches were controlling them).

i dislike the whole concept of religion but not because i find it dangerous. i think those who abuse religion in order to control people or fullfill a certain goal, would still find another fulcrum to abuse even if religions didn't exist.

We cannot brand religion as if it were a general thing and all religions everywhere have exactly the same beliefs and therefore outcomes. Religions are diverse in their thinking and understanding of things and therefore as a result necessarily have different outcomes to what they produce. So to answer from my own religion, is Orthodox Christianity dangerous to society? No, but it is beneficial and I think many evangelicals could learn a thing or two from it.

Religion isn't dangerous unless someone uses it as a weapon. It's like a gun, it isn't dangerous if it's just sitting there unloaded on a shelf, but if someone decides to load it up and use it for bad...

Anyone who says religion is bad as a blanket statement is ignorant or dishonest. There is good and bad in all things, religion is no exception. For every extremist who uses religion in a dangerous fashion I can show you 1000 who do good with it. Of course a church feeding the homeless every day twice a day will never make the news. Religious people are typically more likely to donate money as well as their time to charities, that is just a statistical fact.

Beyond the personal and small (local) community level, it is inherently a bad thing. Many countries that have seen significant drops in religious adherence and increase in secularism and quality of life, while conversely, countries that have high religious adherence tend to have lower qualities of life and breed fundamentalists and extremists that wish to create chaos among those who are different from them. If religion were to all but disappear from the world tomorrow (i.e. everyone just keep their personal beliefs to themselves) then we would jump forward as a civilization, and be much better off. Certainly, some people would feel lost for a little while, but they would adapt and find a world that allowed them to appreciate it's beauty, rather than fear life and hope for death, would grant them so much more.

Science is skeptical inquiry, which is inherently good. Religion is the belief in the absense of evidence, which is inherently bad.

If anything, humans are the neutral part of the equation.

Science didn't burn all those witches or decree certain races to be slaves by divine right. Meanwhile, religion hasn't been responsible for a single medical advancement.

Science has saved more lives than it has taken, a million fold. More people have been killed in the name of God than an atom bomb.

Whilst your wrong, it doesn't change anything, they are both neutral as they are both capable of being used for good and for evil.

What is really bad is Atheism. Just think about all the Atheistic religions that in just a couple of decades was responsible for the genocide of hundred of millions of people! Not to mention all the wars they started and/or were involved in.

The atom bomb did not have a negative effect on global society.
