No
It's an amazing franchise when multiple forms of media are concerned. The lore and characters are both original and inspiring but the actual movies themsevles are not that great. Episodes IV and V are best and each one afterwards get progressively worst. I absolutely love Star Wars as a whole, but as a movie critic, the films just aren't that good, primarily because George Lucas is not a good director.
Yes they're good and enjoyable. Overrated? Yes certainly. But watch and find out for yourself. You should like them if you like Science Fiction.
yes. It's actually one of the few movie series I can think of that I really like. I think movies are generally absolutely god awful.

Like, all movies in general? Or franchises?
I enjoy Star Wars. Even if they're probably not up to snuff with modern sci-fi, you would do well just to experience the iconic IV-VI. Kind of like how I tell people to watch Avatar-- even though the movie is just all right, the story isn't anything special, it's still something to experience.
Now I want to buy the DVDs and watch SW again... all I have are the old VHSes.
Sharpie i would wait for this if you have a player of course. I found something enjoyable in all of the films, I liked all of them in some way or another.
Episode I - Really Really Bad
Episode II - OMG..SO horrible ... SO HORRIBLE
Episode III - It was decent on first viewing but then watching it again it is really hard to get past the atriocious dialogue and just bad script overall
Episode IV -Amazing movie
Episode V - Incredible
Episode VI - I am sorry but this movie just sucks. Almost ruins the original trilogy.. It starts off interesting but then gets so hokey and campy and just flat out RIDICULOUS with a lame ending of the story with too much rehashing of episode IV... Oh hey look, were building ANOTHER death star!... SERIOUSLY? I mean they couldn't come up with anything else?.. Darth Vader reveal was so lame. Just everything about it was disappointing.
Yes. All of the movies -yes, even l - lll, deal with it- are awesome. You must not appreciate very good story if you don't like them... no offense, haters.
if you're looking for a good thoughtful sci-fi flick no it's not,if you're into action movies with beam guns and cute robots, go for it.

I would say that I probably ENJOYED most of the movies (both original trilogy and prequel trilogy), but I'd be more hesitant to say that it was "GOOD".
I'd say that the entire series has serious problems, and that it's so revered more for its cultural significance rather than for its actual QUALITY. I generally ENJOYED most of the movies, sure. But at best I think that the series is generally sort of a piece of ****.
3-6 was good. 1-2 is terrible. I prefer Star Trek.

I'd reduce that slightly. I might be able to call 3-5 "good". And out of those, I'd be willing to ditch 3 and 4.
Five was the ONLY one that I will stand by and say was a genuinely good movie.
I like 3 and 4, but they are highly flawed. Episode 6 totally sucked. And episodes 1 and 2 sucked as well.
Obviously no one likes I or II, but I'm surprised that anyone here can claim to like III. I suppose if you had it on mute for the entire movie and didn't hear any of the ridiculously horrible dialogue...Dark__Link
Did you have the movie on mute when you were watching episodes IV-VI?
Really, the series IN GENERAL wasn't very ****ing good. Out of all six movies, the ONLY one that I'm willing to defend as a genuinely good movie is "The Empire Strikes Back."
Star Wars is far more important for its cultural significance than for the actual QUALITY of the movies. Most of those movies, INCLUDING the original classics, just plain aren't all that good.

I never physically cringed at any of the dialogue in IV-VI. There were some cheesy lines, but nothing as bad as the stuff in III.Star Wars kicked off an entire industry that is still alive and kicking today and has had a massive cultural impact. Love it or hate it, I don't think any movie franchise that wasn't good would be able to accomplish such a feat. To me, the first three films are classic cinema that are timeless, but the prequels are laughably bad.
Yeah, It really shifted the scifi genre.
Even the new movies are good movies:o
Yeah I said it. Are they the origional 3 great, no. But they are still good movies.(just with some bad/horribly funny moments :P )

What's this? You actually like the prequels?! It is illegal to like such a trilogy! You are forever banished from the off-topic boards!
Just kidding, I like the new movies as well. Yeah, they have their dumb moments, but they aren't terrible. Everyone here seems to highly exaggerate how bad they are.
I think is a fairly decent Sci Fi franchise on it's own.
Episode I The Phaton Menace - Bad movie, but it had some decent fight scenes and the music was ok, but yeah, overall, pretty fogettable.
Episode II Attack of the Clones - Again, only redeeming factor are the action sequences, plot? it left the building the moment some random decoy was killed in the first 5 minutes of the movie and says, i fail you...hmm, no, you didn't fail, you actually did your job pretty good :? Yep that's a sign of what is coming.
Episode III Revenge of the Sith - Damn good, really good, superb action sequences, coherent plot, amazing music, still some bad and cheesing acting, but the movie as a whole is highly enjoyable, i'll say is the second best movie in the entire franchise.
Episode IV A New Hope - A good Sci Fi movie, that's pretty much about it, it's corny and cheesy but in a good way, it may not have the best action scenes since its an old movie, but it gets the job done and even to this day the last battle is still very enjoyable, only bad thing, it's really hard to find an old version since most of what it is on TV and DVD are the new versions and they are awful in some parts, really awful.
Episode V Empire Strikes Back - Like most people, I think this is the best movie in the entire franchise, it is pretty good, most of the flaws in the first one were fixed here, it has even better action scenes and the ending is pretty good besides it get you hyped for the last movie.
Episode VI Return of the Jedi - I don't know why a lot of people didn't like this as much, but i think is pretty great, sure, it's kind of ridiculous, but once again the action sequences were good, the music was good, and i think is overall i highly enjoyable movie.
For me is- V>III>VI>IV>>>>>>>>>II>I
