Isn't that more like, self-sacrifice? Pretty much the same thing true, but I dunno if anyone would call those acts of giving up your own life to save someone else as "Suicide". :?for the people claiming to uderstand the bible and at the same time claiming that it's an instant trip to hell...don't really know enough about the bible especially if including the new testament. when a person is saved in the christian belief they are saved always unless that person than denounces that belief regardless of future sins (and then one can bring in the various interpretations about a certain sin which according to less respected translations is unforgivable). Sampson for instance committed suicide in an attempt to win a battle, and he is regarded as being with God as the bible suggests.
edit: i thought of something that might be easier to understand...
let's say Mother Teresa jumped in front of a moving vehicle knowing that she was going to die but at the same save the life of the one the van barreled toward....would she instantly go to hell? the question should really be for this topic does suicide necessarily lead to hell.
NathanHawkins
The victims are not neccesarily dead, the friends, family and so on.. It's not a crime without victims..not sure if it is a sin. depends on the faith i guess...
but i do know it is against the law. stupid usa. law against suicide. how dumb is that, the violators are DEAD!

could be. but that's why i put in the "necessarily" part. it's a thin line indeed.
hmm, instant trip to hell? not sure about that. Man does not judge, so no one can nor may tell who's going to hell or where. God is the judge. suicide is a sin? = nobody knows really. it depends on the person committing the action. he or she may not know what he/she's doing and could be in some kind of psychological state. it depends on the motive.
Christ's dying on the cross is also considered suicide when you look at it. He knew he was going to die, he could have saved himself. but he chose to die. that is suicide, no matter how you look at it. and there goes my point - it's a sin depending on the situation and psychological state of the person. anyways, nobody's in any position who's going where after death.
You cant even say that the Bible says you're going to hell after that. im not so sure about that. There are several translations of the Bible and some words have been replaced. Like there are some Bible versions saying "Hell" whereas some say "Gehenna".
Sin or not, does it matter? it's a stupid move. Of course, if you're in your right mind you wouldn't do it, unless you're crazy or something of the sort.

the bible encourages judgement sometimes....as it should. the ultimate judge based on biblical belief is of course God, but our free will isn't negated when judgement is considered. i won't speak for other societies necessarily, but in most american society as well as many others...disregarding judgement is a negligent process. we have a brain and so should use it. BUT, the real point of judgement the bible makes is whether that particular judgement reflects on ourselves as in how we might find ourselves better than the one judged (and so realizing that because one judges another, that person commits many wrongs but is not more worthy)...rather than see how little as far as humility is concerned the ones we judge. to make no judgement whatsoever is ignorant. if we did not judge in certain circumstances, we often might find ourselves in a situation that God would say, "why did you do that?"
Yes it is a sin and no it cannot be forgiven so dont be commtin suicide if you want to go to heaven
I'm dead serious no play play in this answer

Yeah, hehe. My grandmother has a version (King James version?) that says something about unicorns. So, being a devout baptist, she says this is absolute proof that unicorns are, or once were, real and alive somewhere on Earth. When she told me this I said "Well, you can't believe everything you read in the bible" (meaning you can't take it literally) and I thought she was going to have heart attack.
Spartan-051: ...What? I honestly didn't understand a word of that except for "yes"
I think it is wrong to attempt suicide, unless you have a terminal illness, are suffering a severly reduced quality of life and discuss it with medics, family and carers.
For those without a medical reason, who knows what life brings? Perhaps you feel a certain way today, but you will certainly feel a different way in months or years to come. Just as you did not feel like you do now in years gone by. There's also plenty of things people can do to make their lives better if they take enough positive action. Surely most peoples' experience of life is that things change and develop. So why kill yourself, as you'll be missing out on living a little.
As to whether it's a sin - because of the ambiguous religious implications (a sin in which faith?), I can't see how people are saying that it is or is not. You don't need religion to take a rational moral standpoint. As an atheist, I'd say it was wrong and you could practically interchange the word "sin" in that sense. I don't go along with the "brimstone and hellfire" punishment concept of Christianity though.
why yes, yes it is, and an instant trip to hell. have fun.wiiforever25
so ppl that jumped from the wtc towers to escape suffocation and burning to death go straight to hell? i dont buy it
Here's the deal:
If you're a Christian, and commit suicide for whatever crazy reason, then God will not be happy with you. Like someone said, You're body is God's temple, and only He decides whether or not you die. BUT, you will not go to hell. Like someone else has said, nobody can take away your salvation, and that includes you. The reason Christians don't want to commit suicide is becuase we don't want God to say "Hey! WTF do you think you're doing?!?!" when we get there.
Suicide is a sin. If you're not a Christian, you WILL go to hell if you commit it.

People who were pronounced dead for hours and came back screaming about a horrible fiery place, demonic possesions and exorcisms that have been documented throughout history, the Bible, take your pick.

The Catholic churc believes that Suicide is a mortal sin; meaning it cannot be forgiven.
Now, I'm not Catholic, so I don't believe that.
Judas killed himself and I still think he went to Heaven.

I'm not Catholic either, but the Bible clearly says no sin cannot be forgiven.
Judas never believed in Christ, and also betrayed Him for some money. I guess he could be in Heaven, but it's unlikely.
I said suicide is a mortal sin because I believe it is a HUGE sin to commit, but that was wrong of me.

Judas was a deciple of Christ and, in the end, asked for forgiveness before he killed himself.
The paradox is whether or not the crucifiction would have happened without him.
So, I don't care who anyone is or what they say, Judas dines in Heaven.
