His score had no chance of winning anything though since he didnt write the majority of it. Still a great score, though Nick Cave's score for The Assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford was better imo. The score to there will be blood tried too hard at times to sound unique.

Jonny Greenwood made the entire score. It's just that he used two other artists work in there, as well as an excerpt from pre-made stuff from him. I still find the soundtrack to be fantastic. But I guess that's just my taste in music. :P

It was still a fantastic score overall, shame the Oscars didnt nominate it.

[QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="dreDREb13"]Yeah, I agree. I'm a fan of indie films. But I never really watch them anymore, so I guess I don't have a good place to talk... But I still wish There Will Be Blood won Best Picture last year...dreDREb13

I was fine with No Country for Old men winning, I would have preferred There Will Be Blood but either is good.

Yeah. They were both superb, but I was just much more a fan of There Will Be Blood. Not to mention the soundtrack being phenomenal. Jonny Greenwood is a god.

Imo, No Country for Old Men is much better than There Will Be Blood. Then again, I'm also a huge Cormac McCarthy fan :D.

Whats your favorite Cormac McCarthy book? Mine is Suttree, and Child of God.

dont question the film guy on movies of 08 that were great. he probably already watched so many movies we havent heard of that were probably a lot better than the dark knight.

Oh noes!!! Fear his all knowingness!

Honestly though I dont watch the oscars so I won't be on the edge of my seat cheering for it. But if it did win I think that it would be nice, simply because there are so many people who think it cant win just because its a comic book movie.

There are probably just as many people who think it should win though. Most people I know think it should.

Its all a matter of opinion though. I WOULD call it one of the best films of the year. And I would love to see it at least nominated for Best Picture - whether it wins, who knows. I really do think though that Heath Ledger should win best supporting actor. He is just superb in that film. It has nothing to do with his death.

I agree that the Oscars make poor choices sometimes. Chicago winning over The Pianist - which took Actor, Director and Screenplay - is just a joke.

kemar7856

Other jokes come to my mind like:
The English Patient over Fargo (1996)
Shakespear in Love over Saving Private Ryan (1999)
Crash over Good Night, Good Luck or Brokeback Mountain (2005)

lol The Pianist was an amazing movie WTF

The Pianist is amazing, it's one of my all-time favorite films.

It's a great movie but I don't think so. It could get a nomination but not a winner. I'd be disappointed.

It's a good blockbuster movie, but not a sublime one, I like it but its not Oscar material, but well I haven't seen a great movie on theaters in a long time, (favorite movie of the year : Wall-e)

[QUOTE="3eyedrazorback"]I think, because of the hype surrounding it (not to mention its pure awesomeness), it's going to win quite a few. Look at Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Yeah, it was good, and it's my favorite, but it won mostly because of the hype. biggest_loser

Look what it was up against: Master and Commander, Lost in Translation, Seabiscuit and Mystic River. The only outcome was a sweep.

Anyway, I think it'll go in the other direction for The Dark Knight; Heath will get a nomination, Nolan might, but that's it.

Have you seen all of those films? Master and Commander and particularly Mystic River are masterful films.

neither of those movies were masterful. Master and Commander was a flop. I don't think Return of the King should have won that year, but it was a terrible year for movies.

I could really care less, the Oscars make the weirdest choices sometimes. Besides, I don't think the Oscars have really ever made or broke a movie that would become a classic. I think TDK is the type of movie that'll be popular for years.

If it would have come out last year, it would have had a chance, but this year, no way. It wont be nominated for the main awards. It WILL get nominations (and probably wins) for Supporting actor (Heath Ledger is a lock-in, no other performance this year comes close), for cinematography, editing, sound editing and mixing, and also costume design, maybe makeup. If its lucky it could get a screenplay nomination, but its doubtful. For best director and best picture, theres no way, movies like Frost/Nixon, Doubt, Slumdog Millionaire, ext completely overshadow it.

Besides, look at the Golden Globes, 10 best movie nominations and they didnt include The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight only got 1 golden globe nomination (best supporting actor). Even Tropic Thunder got more nominations.

I really think the movie deserves nominations for best picture though, and especially Christopher Nolan deserves a best director nomination, but it probably wont happen.

(BTW, to that guy who asked about who chooses the winners, well, isnt it obvious? The Academy chooses the winners. Not film critics like Roger Ebert. The Academy consists of hundreds of people, actors, directors, and people involved in hollywood, and they all vote choosing the winners.)
