Culture is how the world percieves any given country. When a culture is self contained it is said to be a stagnant culture. However it is (recently) cool to hate American culture. Does this mean that American culture is actually receding?

Serious posts only please.

If anything it's expanding, infact my country has become so Americanized you would think we were just little America.

There has definitly been an extended boom of American culture over the past 20-30 years. That's why I called it the Golden Age of American culture.

Our ideas about female and racial equality(although we do not always live up to them) are expanding across the world.

Democracies always fail when people start using their votes to get free stuff from other people. America has been going downhill ever since we got the income tax and the welfare state.

Yeah, but a lot of other countries are really embracing their local musicians more now.

Obviouslty, in this interconnected world, other countries are getting a steady dose of our media. But in previous decades, it was ALL ABOUT American music, clothes and television. I think those things are less desierable than before.

it would be a amazing thing if all those "sub-groups" (and yes i know there alot more sub-groups) would get along

atm those groups don't mix what so ever

no if anything i think it's growing still..

speaking for my neck of the desert.. you would not hear religious conservatives complain about American values seeping into the youth of their 'nation' if it was not for American influence and affluence with it's principles, actions, culture (film, music, TV, books)...

I don't know about our country losing any cultural influence in the world, but I do think that our country has entered a period of major cultural and moral degradation. The whole "crunk," "bling," "hip-hop" culture has really hurt our country in many ways, IMO. It represents a very shallow, selfish, materialistic, unsophisticated philosophy that has gained so much headway in the last 10+ years that it's hard to even recognize much of this country anymore. I find it disgusting and decadent.

yeah but neither is Saudi religious conservatism is looked fondly either anywhere else. I am Saudi Arabian, and while i may be Saudi and i may be Muslim. and i respect the current King on the throne.

but i still argue separation of Mosque and State, and i still argue that democracy is a better system overall.. (just recently a popular Bahraini pro-democracy blogger got arrested for 'spreading false news' )

Were stuck with late 70 year old men marching into their 80's, dictating to us 25 year olds what were gonna do.

and i don't know i chose the name SaudiFury 3 years ago.. thought it was a good a cool name at the time. sometimes i think it is, sometimes i don't (would rather just put my PSN ID on there or something).

No it's recent. This song came out when American culture was idolized internationally. The imagary in that video promotes American culture (at the time) without being derogatory towards it.

I strongly disagree, more people look and act westernized than the other way around and there is no data supporting that this is even slowing down. It seems to be increasing more than anything else.

If this purpoted end means that I don't have to listen to Justin Bieber or KeSha on the radio and from my friends' music players, then hopefully American culture does recede.

or i'd argue... it's extending it's life 10 fold..... English the language of currency thanks to the British and now the American's hold it. It's taught in schools across the world, and in some countries it is a REQUIRED language to learn.. and the economic system that helped boom America into the superpower it is today is being adopted and ratified by the vast majority of countries on the planet. for instance in some cases American movies can still trump Japanese movies in their own home markets (Japan) by large margins. just because there is a diversity in the rising powers on the globe doesn't mean it's the end of the United States's golden age...

American Culture is a little hard to define... unless you're talking about stereotypical views, which don't really ring true.

I was referring to capitalism in the sense that the profit driven market is forcing American manufacturing industry into other countries where exploitation of the lower class is much easier, which is simultaneously weakening American prestige and increasing that of countries like china.

American Culture is a little hard to define... unless you're talking about stereotypical views, which don't really ring true.

.. There are many legitimate reasons why the US is despised.. I would hardly considered of it being "just cool".. That being said no, its improving.. And every time I see some one post on how the US was at a much better time during the 1950s or earlier, alittle piece of me dies..

Capitalism combined with globalization is bringing about the end of the golden age of America itself imo.

or i'd argue... it's extending it's life 10 fold.....

I was referring to capitalism in the sense that the profit driven market is forcing American manufacturing industry into other countries where exploitation of the lower class is much easier, which is simultaneously weakening American prestige and increasing that of countries like china.

yeah but i'd note... exploitation of slaves and lower class workers is what got American into being a giant power (right before it's massive arms build up in WWII and crushed and mortally wounded Western European countries)..

Is that a good thing? At one time America was seen in one light.

You mean baseball, apple pie and xenophobia?

You mean British values, since we abolished the slave trade prior to America (1833>1865), we introduced universal suffrage before America (1928>1965), and we had National Health Care before America(1946>2010)...

Not this kind of values. I'm talking about the values that define the US, like freedom of speech, tolerance toward homosexuality, secularism...etc
