And don't forget the armed citizen. Half of the US citizens are armed and make an army larger than most nations. true dat.[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Why yes indeed we are. The majority of our troops are not currently involved....and those that are can be easily brought back if needed.Pirate700
How is that stupid? Every president since Reagan has done the same thing. Not with stupidity like this going on.

China and the US are like ants and termites... except the part that ants and termites have been on war since like ever.
Why go on with the thread? The internet has already been won by this kid.Well, didn't the Russians invade Georgia a few years ago?
Woe on the person who takes this post seriously

[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"]I think US military expenditure is more than like the next highest 18 countries combined. as in, our military is massive and utterly beyond any kind of competition.one_plum
Where is all that money coming from? considering they're now trillions in debt. They can't keep borrowing forever.
When you use a debt to GDP ratio, our nation isn't even in the most debt it has ever been in. We were in much more debt after World War II. People who use the dollar amount of debt the US. government has have absolutely no sense of economics. You mean if like China was to somehow sneak its forces acrossed the Pacific?
We have the national guard and if that fails we have the last line of defense, civilians. Americans do not own a ton of guns for nothing you know?
SunofVich
Yep. Back in WWII one Japanese general was distressed at the decision to attack America claiming that an invasion would be impossible since "there would be a gun behind every blade of grass".
However, it's unlikely that the US would ever need to fall back on civillian resistance seeing as how ridiculously overpowered our military is. A lot of people know that we're a pretty powerful country, but they still don't seem to realize just how powerful we really are in comparison to the rest of the world. For example, aircraft carriers are an immense advantage in war since they provide great mobility in deploying air assaults. As it just so happens, the USA has twice as many aircraft carriers as the rest of the entire world combined.
Who's going to invade the U.S. without first crossing the ocean or air and having to deal with the United States' air force or navy?
jetpower3
This. Unless Canada and Mexico decide to ally themselves with the enemy, there's no way for any foreign attacking force to actually put their troops on US soil. They'd be completely obliterated coming by sea or air. The Modern Warfare 2 scenario is a joke and completely preposterous.
The only way the US will fall is from within, and some idiots always think that it will happen because of President... whomever is President at the time. Something seriously messed up has to happen within the US. States secede, congress, house, and supreme court gets dissolved, which would then probably lead to states seceding.
No foreign power could hope to occupy the entire country.
If they entire world were to suddenly just hate us and invade from all sides. That is likely the only way they could defeat our military, but we gonna take a hell of a lot of bad guys wih us.
Yes, because we'll use nuclear weapons on our own soil... :roll:Not with stupidity like this going on.

[QUOTE="MushroomWig"]Don't compare Iraq to China or Russia, that's a big mistake.Palantas
Elaborate on that.
Isn't it obvious? The military of Iraq can't exactly be compared to the military might of China or Russia.[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"]it's kind of wrong, but not really http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:U.S._Federal_Spending_-_FY_2007.pngPalantas
I'm wrong on the "15%" figure, in that there have been huge special appropriations for Iraq and Afghanistan; the Department of Defense proper is allocated around 15% in last year's budget. I'm not wrong in that social programs take up way more than military spending.
Actually due to the Iraq and afghanistan war the budget is much higher.. The only reason why it isn't figured in, because it has been done throubh borrowing atm from China mainly.
we Americans have your backs, so you never need to worry.AFBrat77UNless somebody decides to launch a nuclear attack on Canada.
We can defend ourselves for a time, but then politics would get in the way. People would start marching to stop the fighting and surrender. Politicians would try to set a time limit to get out of the conflict. You'd have people questioning our claim to this country, saying we shouldn't be here in the first place. The media would show exaggerated footage of so called war crimes and insist we arrest all of our soldiers. Some citicizens would say it's our fault we are being invaded and we should just accept our "punishment."This question can't be for real. No the most powerful country in the world can't defend itself.
