What is your definition of "attention whoring".
And what is being said is that you apparently feel above these sites (despite the fact that you admit to never actually trying them) which is ironic since your problem with them is that you believe 90% the people on them have too much self importance.

It's all derived from what I've seen through watching a couple ex's use the services and other friends. Seeing the self absorbed sites updated every 5 minutes telling everyone what they ate for dinner. Also a whiite trash family I know of just got a divorce because the wife and husband were constantly fighting due to comments left by the opposite sex. It's the downfall of society I tell you....the devil is in it!I use facebook to connect with friends when I can not visit them over school breaks. How does this make me a rebellious, ignorant, egotistical superstar?AvistannThis, pretty much. :?
I find the net a good place to get into contact with people on a very superficial level, and that's it. Honestly, I don't care about sharing my life with others to the point I'm going to create a webpage about it.....besides, who would be interested in reading it? I don't have anything to say unless it's relevant to something, and find most interactions are based around small talk. Doesn't interest me, a forum that focuses on a particular subject or meeting someone face to face is much better.
I think you have a skewed perspective. I have a profile on facebook with a whopping 50 friends. All of them are actual friends with the exception of a few family members. Just because people go out in the world doesn't mean they need to take a brillo pad shower, scrubbing away the human contact of the world when they get back home. I have 270 and know all of them does this mean I'm self absorbed? So you have to have a small amount of friends to not be self absorbed I'm confused with your postAm I the only one?
Being born into a disciplined family I was taught to be selfless, humble and non-egocentric.
In contrast, most of todays young view themselfs as self-important "superstars" via their own personal webspace.
Does anyone else see society becoming more and more self-absorbed with all this virtual vainness?

I have none of those accounts, primarily due to me not being interested in writing up little inane comments on every waking facet of my life... raven_squad
This. If I ever need to get in contact with some distant relative or old friend, I'll start a Facebook account. For now, a phone is all I need to stay connected with my friends.

I think self absorbed is the wrong terminology, but I imagine that you are the kind of person the TC was talking about. I was speaking from my experience and mine alone.Am I the only one?

Same. As a matter of fact, sometimes I don't sign on to Steam to play games because I don't want to talk to anyone or let anyone know that I'm currently online. (Yes I know I can turn off SIGN IN TO FRIENDS WHEN STEAM STARTS, I just haven't).
I like to be the one to initiate contact, and when I'm busy doing something or wanting to play a game I don't necessarily want to have to respond to stuff like:
bored, lol whats up?
i love twitter, its funny and cool when celebs and athletes respond to you and just the stupid ish they post. plus its the best way to get the quickest news. like ill see someone break a story on twitter before it hits like espn or something. its not for everyone but i like itTwitter is quite possibly the worst thing to have ever hit the internet.

I have a facebook. It can actually be useful to keep in touch with friends you have not seen in awhile.
Raiden004
Ever heard of the phone? Instant online messengers? Emails? Heck even texting?
Don't try to justify the fact that you use facebook with irrelevant excuses.

Yes, but Facebook makes that much easier. It is hardly an irrelevant reason to use Facebook. I use Facebook to keep in touch with friends that have all went separate ways since high school/college. Yeah, there are other ways to do this, but that hardly makes Facebook a less legitimate option.
"Succumbed"?
It's a great way to keep up with friends that have gone off to other colleges/universities or graduated. I don't care about anything else. It's just great to see they're all up to. And for that they are great.

...?
I hate talking on the phone. Facebook is a great way to see what is going on with everybody. I mean they aren't all the closest friends that I want to hang out with all of the time or talk to on the phone. E-mailing and texting is a pain when I can just see what's up with them through statuses.
I really don't get what is with all of this social networking sites hate.

I use Facebook, and I honestly see no problem with that. I'm not self-absorbed, I'm not dumbing myself down, etc. I'm merely keeping in touch with people.t3hrubikscubeExactly this.
Funny how you seem to be arguing against the "people who use facebook are egotistical" assertion, yet your post comes off as humorously condescending.I use facebook.
Keep telling yourself you're stronger if you don't. We both know why you don't use any of 'em.

i don't have twitter or myspace.
I had a facebook because my friend kept pestering me to make one,
I used for a month, joined some baboon appreciation groups then deactivated it.
I just honestly could not care about my "friends" useless status updates about what they are doing on the weekend or how they are feeling. Like this girl I know had a baby and like everyday she is making facebook updates about her baby and how she was feeling.
I hate it, it's pointless and stupid and meaningless
I avoid all that stuff. Why? Because I've never had more than three friends at once in my life. And I don't wan't to be friends with most of my relatives.
Edit: I had a myspace page once, when I was younger. Only because a girl wanted me to make one. This was before I knew she had a BF. Oh that was a tragic relationship...especially when I told her I liked her over AIm. The next day was so awkward. Ah...memory lane. How I hate you so.
I haven't found anything I care enough about to follow on Twitter. I have a deactivated Facebook account, but I will reactivate it soon because I'm going to lose a significant amount of ''face'' time with my closest friends. I tend to forget MySpace even exist.
Oh yeah, I know there are loads of people who do just use it as a Facebook status but update it 100 times more often. I did that at first then realised it's pointless. I also thought of another use, you know those girls on Facebook that make status updates about how much they hate men every 2 hours? Well what if we redirect them all to Twitter so they can chat as much rubbish as they want and the 2 people in the world that actually give a flying **** can listen along, leaving us all in peace.TacticaI
+1
I use FB to keep in touch with fam and friends I'm too lazy to go see... when I found out about the HIDE feature, it made Facebook more addicting because I was going to quit from all the "guys are stupid because" and "I can't stand it when..." statuses every two seconds...
