yes, there are many free games out on the internet. Many free MMORPG games, one of which comes out on July 30th that I am awaiting, called 2Moons.
But if you search around there are some out there to be found. Or buy a copy of Half Life 1 or Half Life 2 and you can download like 100 mods which is essentially 100 games for the price of one
If by "free" you mean pirated, then yes, but if you're only asking about them now, then start reading up, because I doubt anyone here feels like teaching piracy 101 right now.
If by "free" you mean "shareware/freeware", then year. Try Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It's an alright game. There's also War Rock, which is fairly popular (though it blows).
