The Senate is gonna vote on the Health Care Bill on Christmas Eve!

Politics on Christmas Eve, oh no no no! Santa is gonna give Obama and Reid coal fo' sho'.

They should be spending time with their families.

This is Dang Ridiculous.

I think it would be disrespectful to their responsibilities and oaths of office to defer the important business of the country just because a holiday comes the following day.

It is too me! And it's my favorite Holiday too. And the vote will be at 7:00 pm, which is after sundown. Christmas technically starts at Sundown on Christmas Eve.

They have all the sixty votes they need, so it should only take them about five minutes.

What? Congress usually adjourns a week before most Holidays, like Thanksgiving, July 4th, Christmas, Easter, etc.

There's a difference between a Doctor and a Politician, Doctors work on Holidays in case there is an emergency.

Their job is far more important than celebrating a holiday whether you find it important or not.. The healthcare debate is a huge thing to be working on.

I am going with the biased answer. If they vote against, it is appropriate, and respectful. If they vote for, they are evil monsters, who are disrespectful, and whose actions are inappropriate! :x

However this opinion isn't exclusive to Christmas Eve, it goes for year round...

True. But when possible it is good to have certain holidays. Christmas being a major one, even for non-Christians.

Those are federal holidays. They are more "major" to Congress than Christmas Eve.

Regardless, with pressing times like this.. THEY chose to run for poltiical office, they should never expect to have a garenteed day off on a specific day, their jobs for the good of the state and country are too important for that.. Especially during this past decade.

I agree that there should be no such thing a "guaranteed" congressional holiday. However, provided things are progressing adequately, I don't find it unreasonable that they be given a day off. People eventually need some down time.

Yes, because the US government needs to not do work on every day that someone might consider sacred. That would work.

I like that idea. We should make every day sacred to someone. Then congress could never meet, and the rest of us could get some work done without them constantly putting obstacles in our way.

pretty much

I Know I, my sister, my mom, and a lot of the rest of the country are going to work that day.

Besides, dont congressmen and senators work 3 days a week as it is anyway?

why do you seem to make a huge deal over nothing. first they are polititions comes with the job, if their needed by thier country they can stay insessions longer and not get holidays till their work is done.

second this isnt any other year where they break a week before christmas, they have important bussiness to take care of ASAP(not saying i support or reject the bill) if the president says get this finished and voted on before Dec 31 you better believe their working everyday till they vote.

I bet that making up goofy mega-partisan hypotheticals makes for the true spirit of Christmas

It's not my fault Reid and Obama choose to run the country in a very hyperpartisan way!

As true as that may be, The President doesn't punch the time cards of the Congress and Senate. I imagine it's the leaders of the Democrat party pushing their members to get it done, and the Republicans and Independents just have to go along for the ride to make sure a vote isn't taken while they are absent.

As long as its not Christmas Day I'm fine with it.

technically it's after sundown, so it is considered Christmas Day.

Ain't Congress got more important things to do (like telling Christmas stories, being with their kids, etc.) other than playing stupid politics and trying to sneak through a controversial bill when Americans are paying attention to more important things.
