Man I love Will, but he is long way under Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington..

Denzel Washington, Samuel L Jackson, Forest Whitaker, Morgan Freeman, Terrance Howard, Laurence Fishburn, Danny Glover, James Earl Jones, Djimon Hiunsou, Micheal Clark Duncan, Ving Rhames, and Charles S Dutton are all great actors that I would put above or at least as good as Will Smith. There are only 2 performances I'd really consider as break out roles for Will Smith and toy still have to squint to be able to not see him as the typical will Smith in them. Pursuit of Happyness and Six Degrees of Separation. Eben in those though, he has the typical one liners you'd expect from The fresh prince of belair.

Not a bad actor, just not the best imo.

Will Smith is one of my favorite black actors.

IMO his massive popularity as well as lack of talent prevents him from being anything other than Will Smith on screen. Which is fine: since as previously mentioned, like Arnold, his screen presence gets him by. He's become the Mcdonalds of black actors: popular, good for highly accessible movies that appeal to all classes and races. As such he's in demand.

Even other massive pop culture stars typecast as shallow hero type characters like Sylvester Stallone (godblessrocky) have some out of the box "Cop Land" performances under there belt. I don't think i'v ever once been convinced by Will Smith as "emotional" or anything close to those lines.

Will Smith is the most popular, but nowhere near the best as an actor. The best black actor I've seen would probably be either Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman.

He's basically one of my favorite actors regardless of skin color.

I stopped reading at "lack of talent:" i know its only your opinion but to say he lacks talent is completely false.

He is a good actor.

Makes money? Yes.

Best? Nope. Denzel, Morgan Freeman, Sidney Portier, Don Cheedle, and Idris Elba are all better actors.

As far as best black actors go, I'd give it to Denzel Washington, and granted I don't think Denzel has a whole lot of dynamic range but he's still good in what he does, and taking into account his favorability as a celebrity, the large body of good films he has been involved in over the years, his value as an asset to the making and marketability of mainstream films, Denzel is king.

I also think M. Night Shyamalan never should have been able to get his horrid destructive hands on directing the movie called: The Last Airbender.

That's one movie right there that should be just rebooted at some point in the future, rebooted into something much better from a much better director choice.

His early movies were good, but after Signs all of his movies are bad and it's been over 10 years of crap, lol.

He really is just himself in every movie he plays no matter what role he's playing. I literally had this same thought as I watch a trailer for his newst movie FOCUS like 4 days ago.

Normally this could be a bad thing, but we all love Will Smith so we dont really mind.

Manoj ruins everything he touches. The Bollywood directors of commercial hindi cinema are ton X better than him lol. I come to think of it Rajkumar Hiran's PK is far superior to anything Manoj ever did HeHe.

The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were great movies, and Unbreakable in particular is still one of the best superhero movies I've ever seen. But after Signs, his movies got worse and worse. The Last Airbender was unbearable to watch, turning a great show into garbage trash.

@Jag85: True, Sixth Sense was decent, even though it was one of the most made fun of movies of its time, didn't know it was by Shyamalan. Never watched Unbreakable though.

I remember yawning while watching The Village and the Sign, and half of the movie theatre crowd leaving after interval lol.

Hated both of those; thankfully I didn't go to the theater for either. It the kind of movie you feel like fast fowarding to reach the stupid conclusion so that you can say you've seen it.

With a few exceptions (Ali, most notably), Will Smith is one of those actors that seemingly just plays himself. Denzel, Sidney Poitier, and Morgan Freeman act circles around Will Smith.

If the question were who is most bankable black actor, then yes, I would agree.

Denzel washington and Morgan freeman. The greatest acting job Will ever did was in the pursuit of happyness, I'm not going to slight him but I hold the above two actors in higher esteem.

Samuel L is great but incredibly type-cast, he doesn't have much range.

Also, I actually had a college class that made us watch Hitch, what the **** were they thinking.

Yeah I like him, think hes a really good actor.

Eh Smith is alright but not the best IMO. Think that would go to Denzel.
