We are all gamers here, and we love playing them. But at some point you have to draw a line between real life and virtual reality. With all of these internet Avatar games people will one day have a completely virtual life. People interact with eachother W/O even having an Idea of who they are talking to. The future of humanity might completely be virtual life. Games can become over-addicting. This is not the kind of future we want. What do you think about this?

i dont think we will end up in just virtual reality, but i do hope that one daw WoW will have Crysis graphics, that would be a miracle and i would most certainly pay $15 a month for it.

Thats sums up the answer. Some games are very addictive like World of Warcraft, but if you quit playing it for about a week you just forget about it

That might apply for some (like the Korean man who died after playing an MMORPG for 72 hours straight) but that won't be the case for the majority. Most likely such games will grow tremendously in scale and popularity but this wont be at the expense of the real world.

Games are fine if you do not over do it. It is an addiction to some but not to all.

Your summarizing that everyone who plays games is addicted and everyone can't quit.... althought that is accurate, it is only about 40% of the crowd that has an addiction that they cannot control... but even they would be able to balance it if they had an inch of self control and a desire.

game addiction isnt like drugs, drugs are a physical addiction ur body actually needs them after a while but games arent like tht u can play a game constantly for a while and eventually ur gonna get bored and quit or beat the whole thing and quit or just play so long u just one day turn it off and dont turn it back on

In some internet-chat-life games their are millions of people playing them. I don`t abhor these games and I would love to play home on the PS3 im just saying that some people play them way too much. Im not necesarily saying everyone gets addicted, but more and more people continue to join in on these games (once again i know that just because they play these games they aren`t addicted to them).

my teacher said addiction to video games is not real, its more like a bad habit. like procrastination, its not like a drug (chemicals) that your body will need over time, its just something that you are inclined to do. think about procrastination, would you say you are addicted to procrastinating, or is it just a bad habit? gaming is the same, there are no chemicals for your body to get addicted to.

Interesting to compare with procrastination. I am a very severe procrastinator. I always miss coursework deadlines, sometimes by months, and procrastination has come pretty close to screwing up my education. I can't really stop myself from procrastinating, its a frame ofmind I'm stuck in. It is not something I can just shake off, but depends on how i balance the value of the present me and the future me, so itdoesn't have much similarity to addiction.
