There isn't a facepalm big enough to address this topic. Link to (Hopefully) End Thread Since World War 2 we've had (Counting Libya) no less than eight different extended military engagements that fall under the category "authorized by United Nations Security Council Resolutions and funded by Congress". Included among these are our current ongoing military operations in Afghanistan that are approaching their first decade anniversary, the first Gulf War, and the Korean War. Presidents of both parties have been doing this for decades now. Conservatives (like the TC) would be interested to know that Ronald Reagan was behind one of these.nocoolnamejim

I don't know crap about history (Tossing that in here)

Didnt reagen Arm al qeuda in the 80s or was it Bush sr?

And the Iran arms ordeal.

either way BOTH came back and bit us in the ass.

Article 1, Section 8.

Oleg_Huzwog

I'd prefer to hear confirmation from the TC.

Why wait? That's the section he's referring to. "Congress shall have power blah blah long list blah blah to declare war."

And then the counter for this situation is found in Article 6: "blah blah and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land blah blah." Treaty here being the UN Charter.

1. The US is helping enforce a UN no fly zone, as a major member of the UN it is kind of our responsibility to help enforce it

2. Under the war powers act of 1973 the president needs congresses approval of military action or a declaration of war after 60 days, and has to notify congress of action within 48 hours. I think congress got there notification and 60 days hasn't past yet
