In any case, it works fine for me for now. Whether or not it works fine overall depends on how the rest of the series plays out, and I'm not going to find that out until next year.MrGeezer

Ugh don't remind me. "Split season" my donkey, might as well just say there are six seasons.

There's no way Walt's out. That's a load of sh*t. He might not be making meth anymore, but he's still involved in the business. It was an easy lie for Skyler, especially with the position he's currently in. He'll more than likely be like Gus; head of the operation, but no longer a cook.sammyjenkis898
Honestly, I doubt that. 1) Thematically it would be far more interesting if he doesn't get discovered until he's quit, rather than getting discovered while he's still being a meth kingpin. 2) I think that him actually giving Jesse the money (even though he didn't have to, and Jesse was already set on walking even if it meant leaving empty handed) shows that he realizes how much of an ass he's being. That combined with the paper towel dispenser in the hospital (which was deliberately contrasted against the last time we saw it, when Walt got good news) seems to imply that Walt is once again going to die very soon and doesn't have much time left. That changes things a LOT and provides a totally plausible explanation for why he'd want to get out. Personally, I don't think that he was lying when he said that he'd quit. I think he was totally serious, and meant it. If it wasn't for Walt Freaking Whitman (Leaves of Grass, my ass), I totally think he would have gotten his happy ending and died of cancer with his family with his kids and Hank being none the wiser.

I'm almost positive his cancer has returned. JML897
I agree with you and John Bean. Why else would you have gone to the hospital? That scene has to have some significance.

When did he go to the hospital? I must have missed that part.

Think right after the 2nd montage before visiting Jesse. Got a scan. Then they showed him in the bathroom of the hospital and he saw the towel dispenser that he punched in season 2. The hospital visit was a routine visit, but showing it does seem to have some significance.

If it weren't for the fact that Hank has been so close to catching walt numerous times, the scene where Hank figured it all out would've been ridiculous. I think the next episode should start off with a montage of all the moments hank almost caught him. That or a flashback of Gus/ Jesse in Walt's class

Guys, how do you feel about how much they(Gilligan and the writers) have the last eight episodes figured out. From interviews and stuff, it seems like they have a broad idea of where it will go, but still need to figure out the details. They also seem to be open to altering aspects of the course of where the show will go if they figure out a better idea. Like they have the idea of why Walt is at the diner under a false name and buying the gun, but at this point they are open to reworking that reason and the events surrounding that moment.

Well, as far as that goes, I think an obvious comparison is The X-Files. I mean, Vince Gilligan was one of the writers for that show, and that show is a classic example of how a potentially great series turned into crap because the writers didn't know where the story was going. So yeah...it's sort of scary to think that sort of the same thing is happening here. On the other hand, from what I've read that's pretty much been the writers' approach through ALL of Breaking Bad. Seems like they'd know better than to make things up as they went along. But it also appears that that's largely what they've been doing the entire time, and so far it's seemed to work out pretty well. Methods don't matter, what matters is the work.. And ultimately it all just depends on the work that's been made. Until the series is over, no one can judge whether or not that approach was good or bad. But so far, their approach and methods seem to (mostly) be working, even if that seems to defy all logic and seems like the wrong way to go about it. Ask that question a year from now, then I'll have my final answer to your question.

Seems to me that they think things well out ahead, but often change things up if needed. I heard that Tuco died as early as he did was because the actor didn't like playing him, so they killed him off.

I thought the scene may have indicated that the cancer was back, but didn't mull over the idea too much. If the cancer is back however, him quitting makes more sense to me.

Nothing like good ole' death to put things in perspective

Can't wait. Breaking Bad ended with such a massive cliff hanger.
