A predicament has arrised and I find myself being required to rise from the ashes of sleep a tad earlier than usual. Around 4 am should do it.

Only trouble is, I go to bed around midnight (this cannot be changed) and I need OTs best advice on waking.

Preferably quiet techniques, I don't wan't to wake the neighbourhood. But all I try at the moment is shining my bedside lamp in my face.

Please share your knowledge on how to awaken, or just tell us how goddamn lazy you are :P

(diagrams have been included for my own amusement)

well with that schedule you may not be getting enough sleep, in which case there wont be a whole lot that will help you. but for me i always find a shower and just simply moving/walking around to help the most.

2-3 Alarms, and away from bed. One of the biggest worries I had going into college was how I was going to wake up, because alarms never woke me up.

Now, I have 2 alarms go off, and both away from my bed, and since my bed is a loft, I have to get down and turn it off. It helps a lot.

Put your alarm clock in a place where you have to get out of bed and walk over to it to turn it off.

9 glasses of water before midnight will wake you up at 4 am most likely, but it's terribly unhealthy to only go with four hours of sleep a day. What's the good reason for not being able to sleep til midnight, and having to wake up at four, anyways?

Well, first of all I need like three alarms to wake me up. So I don't think I'm exactly in the position to give advice :P

BUT.....

I'd suggest splashing your face with some cold water and taking a short walk outside or something. Exercising helps, if you're into that sort of thing, along with eating breakfast which tends to make one feel more energized from starting the metabolism.

Showers and drinks of WATER.Emphasis on the drinking part,I had a similar routine of 4-5 hours sleep for several years, the first step towards staying up is hydration. For the actual waking up part-a loud alarm out of reach is always good...

Drink a load of water before bed so when your alarm goes off at 4 you will need to get up to pee.

Set 3 loud alarms set 1 to 2 minutes apart (If you are using a clock radio I recommend setting them to the radio function, tuning it to a music station you hate, and turning the volume all the way up) The loudest of which should require you to physically get out of bed to be able to reach it to turn it off. Make sure you hit the snooze button not the off button just in case you accidentally fall back asleep. Then a very hot or very cold shower followed by copious quantities of caffeine should do the trick well enough for one day.

You've just gotten in the habit of doing so. If you don't go to bed earlier than 12 than don't get up at 4. The body needs double the amount of sleep. You immune system is eventually gonna slow down, you'll probably even get sick. Take some sleeping pills or something and take the time getting used to going to bed earlier. It will probably take a few weeks to change the habit.
