It's clear they meant this just as a "mass release" version, meaning it's just to get the film out there and sold to people who didn't see it in the theater, or did and cant wait longer to have it at home. They will be releasing "deluxe" versions soon enough - I will wager there will be three different release dates for "extended" and "collectors" versions in addition to this release. It's the biggest grossing film of all time and they are going to milk it mercilessly for every dollar they can. The only people who win with regard to entertainment (be they games or movies) are those that can stand to wait, months or a year or however long for the game or movie to drop in price and be complete. It's all about time - you want to see or play it right away, you pay more. That's what hype is all about. Get people to feel they have to have it now, and get some to feel as if they would be missing out if they waited. The invention of multiplayer online for console games is like a Godsend for gaming companies in the regard too, they've added an aspect to a game that is time relevant in that a large number of gamers want to be playing online right away to rank up etc and now that over time the servers will close and/or no one will be playing. So again, more people buy on release day and pay more than if they waited. As suggested on the topic, my dad bought Avatar on Blu-ray the day it came out. I've already seen it in theatres, and it's a great movie. The picture is amazing on a HDTV. Only one problem, and I'm pretty sure you've had it too. Usually, DVDs and Blu-ray come with bonuses like Special Features that give some terrific insight into how the film is made and deleted scenes that never made it to theatre due to time constraints.
Guess what? Apart from having a Blu-ray and DVD, Avatar is stripped of any special features other than audio selection and subtitles. What do you guys feel about this? Outrage is what I say I feel about it. How about you guys?

Exactly, watching Avatar being made would also be boring because it's just a room filled with green screen with the actors dressed up silly. yes, but you'll also most likely get to watch interviews with the actors/director kissing each others asses, using words like "amazing" a lot. In all fairness, you guys don't think some people are interested in how the technology and film making process works, or what innovations were made and how certain scenes were filmed? You may not be interested, but this is one of the reasons commentary and special features were invented in the first place, to bring people behind the scenes and show them how things were done. And like him or not James Cameron makes the highest tech and most complicated major motion pictures on the planet. Most every film he's made has been at the forefront of what is possible with regard to visual effects. I bet if you asked you'd find most people buy those versions exactly for that reason, so they can see how it was all done.[QUOTE="MushroomWig"][QUOTE="Zaibach"]
why do people care soo much about how these films are made? it just ruins the illusion if you ask me

Get prepared to buy it again two months later when Cameron releases his ultra spectacular I AM GOD special director's cut edition, because he's a greedy SOB.JustPlainLucasAnd then there'll be a directors cut in a few years time.
well what do you expect blurays stil quite new,
the only good movies on it are twister 007 movies -some of them
toy story 1and 2 full metal jacket darknight and speed, almost all the ones i listed have specail features and are cheap toy story is the most expensive but that cause itcomes with dvd
I bought it but I think I should have rented it. I don't think I could watch it again until about 10 years because the story, characters, and dialogue are mediocre and corny. I've gotten past the visuals.
what the hell? your trying to tell me i got screwed over just because there releasing diffrent versions that do have special features
my damn rage knows no bounds:evil:

I mostly never care about that **** anyway.
I'm buying the movie, not an opportunity to hear about how people brought to life a Piece Of ****.
Might be different if I were an aspiring filmmaker, but I'm not. I'm buying the movie, and the movie should stand alone. If it needs commentary and extra features in order to be worth buying, then it's not worth buying.
But what they are actually doing is waiting to release the version that has that stuff, which is a jerk move. Also, speaking of avatars, how come yours (and your sig image) is always broken? :PI might rent this one, But i'll wait till the special edition comes out this fall.
how is this different from any other new movie release? all movies will get re-released with a 'special edition', or a 'director's cut' etc... blu ray movies are no exception. this is why i never purchase a first time release of any movie.

In diehard fandoms and on the internet, If it's popular, it sucks.
i was a little disappointed it had no special features but i got the blu-ray and dvd combo for 20 bucks. i cant complain about that. thats basically 10 bucks for the blu-ray copy! and the blu-ray transfer looks flawless. plus, i never really watch the special features anyways
I might rent this one, But i'll wait till the special edition comes out this fall.
