I used to love horror movies. I've seen all the Halloween, Friday The 13th and Nightmare On Elm Street movies but for around the past eight years or so I've just lost interest in horror movies for some reason. Halloween has always been my favorite horror franchise and I was hoping this new movie would resurrect the horror movie genre and help get rid of these stupid torture movies. Unfortunately, the new Halloween movie sucked. It wasn't awful but I'll never watch it again in my life. I'd rate the movie a 6 out of 10 and I liked how when it came to the backstory this movie did for Michael Myers what Batman Begins did for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Even though they are violent, I think in a weird way horror movies are geared towards kids. Cause when you think about it...how can Michael Myers survive getting shot? How come there are like 2 cops in the whole town? And how come a 6 foot 5, 280 pound guy is going after 120 pound teenage girls? I'm watching the movie and wondering how I used to like this stuff when I was a kid. I think the horror genre is like the western genre, dead. I think they should make less violent horror movies and more horror movies like the first half of the movie 1408 (the second half sucked). I'm hoping a movie like 30 Days Of Night will help the horror movie genre, which is on life support right now.-MlKE-
Yeah Halloween is my favorite Horror series. But Horror movies are staring too suck.
there are tons of great horror movies around, you just gotta look for them, this list of horror movies is for the doubters:D

I think the horror genre is like the western genre, dead. -MlKE-This may be going off the topic a bit, but don't forget about the Western 3:10 to Yuma coming out soon if you're going to make the assumption that the genre is "dead." With powerhouse actors such as Russell Crowe and Christian Bale casted in it, a great director like James Mangold directing it, and with nothing but positive reviews on rottentomatoes.com at the moment, I don't think the Western genre is dead yet;).

I don't know how you can say the genre is not dead. There hasn't been a popular western movie since probably the 70's and just because a new one is coming out doesn't mean it's gonna save the genre. I love Christian Bale as much as the next movie fan, but I think people are just rating this so high because he is in it.

There's still Westerns such as The Proposition and Seraphim Falls around, as well as television shows such as Deadwood and mini-series like Broken Trail keeping the genre alive. Most of them may not gain uber popularity, but at least they are still around prove the genre isn't dead yet. And I'm sure 3:10 to Yuma will do the same.
Well, the whole problem with horror movies is that it's nearly impossible to get the audience to disconnect from reality and get scared by what's happening. The audience is always aware that they are, in fact, just watching a movie, so the movie loses its punch. Lesser directors go for gore, or the "Gotcha!" style of thrills instead which are pretty base and don't have any lasting appeal.
The trick to getting a movie to scare the audience is to make the horror realistic enough that they will connect to the action on a level that makes them feel like they are there.
