I already knew there were two sequels coming but now he's talking about yet another movie.

I have zero interest in seeing another Avatar movie, let alone 3 sequels.
Good or bad idea?!

Avatar isn't bad per se, but it is one of the most overrated movies ever. I certainly wouldn't be interested in a sequel, at any rate.

I'll watch them but I'm sad that he's skipping Battle Angel again, for Avatar.

This,
I want a full budget, anime blockbuster to open the floodgates for success copy cats(thus boasting anime interest in US)
Do you mean Battle Angel Alita? That could be amazing.Could actually be pretty damn cool, as long as they aren't rehashes of the original movie. Keep in mind that James Cameron did make one of the best sequels in movie history (I'm talking about Aliens). But on the other hand, he also did Terminator 2. So maybe you're right. Can't really see how the story line can expand, 3 Sequel's of human's invading the same planet?:P

I've still yet to see the first one...When are people going to realize that people like james cameron, george lucas and steven spielberg are hacks way past their prime as movie makers..?

This maybe true for George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, but the highest grossing film of all time was made by James Cameron as recently as 2009 (Avatar), and despite what many people say, it was nominated for 10 Oscars, generally well rated across all websites and critics, and apparently loved by the global audience, this is especially true considering that it started slow, did not have recorded breaking first day, or first weekend earnings, but it had an impressive run with barely noticable drop in box office from one week to another, that's a sign of good word of mouth.

I thought Avatar did a good job at combining many different aspects, but outside of the visuals and sales, it was not groundbreaking.

Correct, and not every film has to be.I wonder what movies he will rip off now?
Mulan, Terminator 2, Predator and Lito & Stich perhaps?
madsnakehhh
He can't really rip off Terminator 2 since he directed it...
What are you judging Cameron on if you haven't seen Avatar but you're saying he's past his prime?I've still yet to see the first one...When are people going to realize that people like james cameron, george lucas and steven spielberg are hacks way past their prime as movie makers..?

I really don't understand everyone's hate with Avatar. And I don't know how they could make a sequel that works.
I just hope the sequels avoid ripping off Dances with Wolves and Pocahontas like the first Avatar did
James Cameron is just planting a new money tree really. It's the American Way. I can't get mad. The problem with sequels though is that they usually go a bit too far(i.e Rocky 5/Superman 3,4, and Superman Returns,Spider man 3, Batman and Robin, etc.). If he can keep the quality up with the sequels, then yeah he'll be fine.
And as for those talking about the story being over...he can do tons of stuff. He can make a prequel showing how the first attempt at peace didn't work and the humans killed a bunch of them. He can set it 30-50 years in the future and show humans trying to come back to invade. He can make some new planetary menace that Jake and the other blue giants have to fight. He can do tons of stuff.

Good or bad idea?!biggest_loser
Avatar - look at the pretty visuals and ignore the garbage movie
Avatar 2 - this time with pretty visuals and a script that wasn't written by a gerbil
Avatar 3 - this time with pretty visuals, a script that wasn't written by a gerbil, and actors instead of cardboard cutouts
Avatar 4 - ?? A plot maybe?? Or does he need to wait for Pocohontas 4 to come out first?

You're 100% correct, but not every successful movie has to have a completely original plot. Sometimes people enjoy going to a movie to see the groundbreaking visuals, and that's what they did with Avatar. I don't know a single person that said Avatar had a good storyline, but I know a lot of people who liked the movie just through the experiences that the visuals and the effects provided.I haven't even seen the first one, and really don't have any interest in it. I don't understand it - the guy's got all the money he could ever want, and surely he's not doing this to express his creativity LOL. Just working his way up the wold's richest man list I guess.
