The point is valid, that taking away the right of individuals to defend themselves with the best tools possible leaves them vulnerable to abuse. I am Jewish, and perhaps know more about Holocaust history than 99% of this forum *combined*, and do not view Joe the Plumber's statement as "unprecedentedly stupid". I do not see him as suggesting a cause-and-effect relationship between overriding the individual's right to self defence via gun ownership and mass murder and genocide, but the point is that an armed populace is the greatest immunity against tyranny. Israel is the antibody to this disease, and what is Israel? Israel is an armed Jewish populace. As opposed to a disarmed Jewish populace that was broken and largely submissive to its own destruction.
Most importantly, how hilarious is it that the leftist moderator brings up an irrelevant person like Joe the Plumber rather than focusing on the idiotic things that PROMINENT leftists say EVERY DAY, including the President? Do you really want to engage in this transparent attempt to denigrate conservatives, you don't think I have more than enough ammunition from the lowlives like Roseanne Barr and Bill Maher all the way up to Howard Dean and Barack Obama?

But what if guns shot the holocaust?
Probably not the moronic thing I've heard during an election year.Travo_basicYeah to be fair, I think it was Gingrich who suggested that Cubans go and spy on Castro :P http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jan/27/gingrich-cellphone-video-cuba-plan

With some very strict gun control laws and a nonexistent gun culture. I think most people are cool with the armed forces holding on to some weaponry.
Even our resident leftist moderators.

I'm pretty sure that there is precedent for Joe the Plumber saying something stupid.
And sure, it's the fault of a people who haven't traditionally faught back as a group have generally been a peaceable people. Sure.
Actually it was part of the reason why the holocaust did happen. One of the first things Hitle and the Nazi party did was tighten gun control, mostly on the Jews and other ethnic/religious minorities. Hitler made statement that said the reason for increasing gun control was to "protect the children" and "a nobel society does not need guns".
Also the German Luger wasn't really a German gun. It was made and designed by Jews who were manufacturing it before the Nazi party took over, after the Nazis closed down the factory they took the design for themselves.
I am a Jew and I can't stand people that want to ban guns. They are basically slapping me in the face and saying "you can't defend yourself" and when I ask how they just say "don't worry we will protect you" ya sorry not going to believe that BS. Same thing could happen.
A lot of people say they would never be Nazis, but that's because they live in a current age of peace and different morals. If those were gone I doubt most people would be good, when controversy and hardships arise you see peoples true colors, and they are rarely truly on the good side of history.
You know, one of my college classes was History Of Black America , which had a black professor and was very liberal.
One of the points he constantly repeated was a main reason the black man could not be free was because he did not have 'the gun'.
His words.
He also expressed throughout history people are not suppressed by words or ideas or laws, but ultimately by force.
Funny this reminded me of that.
Slavery?!?!?!
I'm studying early American history right now in college. It's pretty ludicrous to think that gun control played any part in slavery. It was a government institution for like 200 years. I'm ass-uming that free slaves could own guns.

Ask your professor. I'm curious if his answer was similar to my professors. We also covered the Nat Turner slave rebellion quite a bit and he used this as example

He is correct, people don't care about your rigths really. Only thing that is stopping people from trampling all over them is that there are people who have guns who will stop that from happening. If you don't believe me then your just naive, let's disban our military for a day and watch what happens, I'm sure these other countries would respect our rights. Sorry but not a chance in hell.
Besides, people who have problems with guns are usually those who have never been around guns much to begin with. If someone was breaking into your house at night and they were going to kill you, what would you do? Call the cops, why? You call people who HAVE guns to kill the bad guy. Just cut out the middle man and get a gun yourself.
"No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms"-Thomas Jefferson
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
Thomas Jefferson
"The right of self-defense never ceases. It is among the most sacred, and alike necessary to nations and to individuals."
President James Monroe (November 16, 1818)
I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to argue with the founding fathers, you know the people who built this country and brought Democracy back? I'm pretty sure they know more than you and anyone else here.
Africans were slaves because they weren't allowed to own guns, if they were they would have revoluted and fought for their freedom.
Tyrants are bullies, they only hurt those who are defensless or become defensless, those who want to ban guns are either bullies themselves or stupid people who don't know what's in their own best interest.
Taking away guns is a bad idea. Well good for big government control freaks, but bad for everyone else. They are prepping people for FEMA camps and infinite detention after they take our guns.LOXO7
No they aren't. And don't worry, your guns aren't going to anywhere.

[QUOTE="Fightingfan"]Still trying to figure out how a plumber makes a quarter mill annually.worlock77
Call a plumber and look at your bill. You'll figure it out
Last time I had to call a plumber the bill was $200 and he did about 15 minutes of actual work.
Yep. I needed my faucet replaced. Thank goodness for youtube. Did it myself and saved $80 for just the plumber TO SHOW UP, not to mention parts and labor.
I bet you'll make a better living at trade school than college these days.
And I call you a idiot if you seriously think a population with hunting weapons and maybe handguns would some how have stopped the Germany when they basically steamrolled over all of interlocked Europe.. Over actual country's militaries, and not just a bunch of farmers or shop owners.. This isn't defending the idea of banning guns or other such things, but this is so fvcking stupid that I had to call it out..Actually it was part of the reason why the holocaust did happen. To be fair, I dont think the guy is a moron. I just think he is way out of his league. A lot of people spend their entire lives in a small part of the country and may not be as worldly as others. I certainly don't think he is going to sound as articulate or knowledgeable as some Ivy league educated graduate, but sometimes listening to the blue collar workers gives you some insight into certain issues. I dont believe his thoughts about gun control are accurate, but they probably do reflect a lot of people's misguided beliefs.Holy sh*t. I knew the man was a moron, this is a level of stupid I had not thought even him capable of.

So to be clear, if you take away someone's gun, they develop an insatiable desire for ethnic cleansing.Sajo7I don't even know why these fvcking things are brought up to begin with! Obama has passed more pro 2nd amendment laws than say Bush Jr.. Yet he is constantly pictured as being anti gun and wanting to stop all guns, its mind boggling..
So to be clear, if you take away someone's gun, they develop an insatiable desire for ethnic cleansing.Sajo7No. I think he's saying that if you take away someone's gun, they can become an insatiable target for ethnic cleansing. Unable to defend themselves. Don't agree with it, but I thin that was his premise.

Absolutely. Not everyone is suited for college, yet everyone is attending, and oversaturating the employee market. I don't care how hard you worked for your degree, when you come out of college and you're one of 100 people applying for the same job your chances aren't good. Meanwhile people working in skilled trades are becoming fewer. It seems no one wants to get their hands dirty anymore. I think we need to start emphasising trade school over college as a real option for students. No matter what we're always going to need plumbers, electricians, carpenters, bricklayers, etc.

I think it depends on the degree you get in college as well. There are not enough graduates in computer science to fill all the jobs in the market right now. And those are good paying jobs. But you can make a very good living as an electrician, plumber, etc. Though they have guilds and unions and can be quite tricky to get into. Please Log In to post.
