Anyone who joins the military is a puppet in a certain sense. This idealistic veiw of fighting for freedom and justice needs to be put to rest. Anyone who thinks such a thing is extraordinarily naive. They're fighting for their country's interests, nothing more. Which, I'm sorry to say, are not always the most moral nor admirable.

Well there are people who join the military for other reasons then money or country. Some join for family pride. Some join because they want to kill people. Some join for themselves to make themselves stronger....Not everyone joins for their "country". Not everyone joins to be a tool....

I would do it for discpline, training, education abilities and what not.. I do not support the US's imperialist policies in places like the Middle East.

I'd say 50/50 for me. Joining the military would be a means of getting an education and securing a job but also lets you serve your country.

It's not all about that.
I want to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them. I want to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill!

I guess you were born to kill? :P

Which is fine, I have no disagreements there. For their reasons, hey....more power to them.Nobody enlists to be a tool, but they're one regardless. Funny thing is, I appreciate and respect those that do, because they do do some good and have our best interests at heart, even if those who hold power don't (as much).

[QUOTE="jalexbrown"][QUOTE="nintendog66"]My 18 year old cousin(as old as me) just joined the military 'CUS IT'S SOOO COOL OMG OMG OMG. I get to shoot people liek in teh call of dutyss". *sigh* and there here are MANY that joined the military for the same reason.GrandJury
I support our troops and all that good patriotic stuff, but somehow that makes me feel a little less safe. :?

I hope that statement about people joining for Call of duty like action is false.

I have a cousin who joined for a similar reason. He didn't make it through basic training though.

I don't speak for all military men, but if I joined, it would be to become a better individual with more focus, more determination, and a purpose. Schooling factors a little bit and country factors a little bit more, but I care most about what I get from it. Not necessarily money but a measurement of myself. The main reason I won't join is because of the medication I'm on. Another reason is that I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Only if I was desperate for money and only if the country is directly invaded. Can't say I find life in the military barracks very appealing based on what I know.

Idk. I'm thinking about joining because I'll at least have direction and food in my mouth for four years. Plus I think something huge may happen in the next four years and I want to be in the biggest group with the most guns when that happens.

Well since you get some good $ from the military (at least USA army) many people will go for the money and education, but there are those go to serve and honor their country.

Service to the country and education opportunities related to having served.

A lot of the people I know who have joined the military did it because they simply wanted to serve their country.

For myself...I'm looking for something. I want to be the best, I want to be different and see the world. I wanna go on an adventure...MgamerBD

Having grown up in a small town I can say this is a large reason why people join the military as well. The appeal of going to the other side of the world after spending your entire life in a small town probably draws a lot of recruits.
