I was talking earlier with an old school friend and he informed me that a friend of mine i went to primary school with (im from the uk, primary school ages from 5-11) had died. I was shocked to say the least. He then told me it had happened almost 2 years ago which literally took my breath away, how could i have been unaware of this happening?

He then told me he commited suicide. This makes me very sad as he always seemed like such a happy person. To this day no1 knows why he killed himself, everything was fine one day and then the next he was found dead in his bedroom.

I then begin to think of when he done this. 2 years ago. I compare how he was to how i was 2 years ago, happy. The happiest i had ever been. I was in love, my college course was going great, everything was working, then there was my friend, who at that exact moment was secretly suicidal. I just wish I had known, I could have helped. I would have tried.

My thoughts go to his family.

Has anyone else had something like this happen in their lifes?

That is terrible but finding out two years later you must not have been very close anymore. Sad none the less. I'm surprised nobody knows why, notes are not uncommon. I've known a couple people who have taken their lives.

One of my friends tried to overdose on her depression medication, and I think she also tried to slit her wrists. I know I seen a scar on her arm once and had a long talk with her about it, but other than her attempts no. If you are curious, she is 100% happy now, in college to become a veterinarian assistant and is living with her current boyfriend, and she says she has never felt happier (even without he anti-depressant pills).

That's terrible. It hasn't happened to me yet. I dread the day when someone who is close to me dies. :(

No offense.. but over time. people die... whether it be killing themselves or other reasons. I'm sure there are other people you've known that are also dead, you just don't know it. If this happened yesturday, or 5 minutes ago, and you were still in contact.. I could see the reason for posting this.. but right now im confused.

My friends grew up with a kid who killed himself on prom night... went out to the woods and didnt come back :( It brought them all together, even the ones who didnt care much for each other initially. Also my moms ex shot himself after losing the use of his legs in an ATV accident... that was really sad. Right before christmas.

what was stupid was that when it happened, everyone in the school had "rip samantha" or something like that as their facebook status. not that it's bad that they said that, but she was in the "weird group" of kids, and if she hadn't shot herself, none of the people writing stuff on facebook about her would care about her and they probably thought way lower of her. and people would say she's in a better place now, but honestly, if there is a heaven and a hell, she probably didn't go to a better place.

People always say the same thing. "He seemed so happy" I guess everything isn't as it seems. I've thought of killing myself several times and I'm not a sourpuss. It's just despair & fatigue due totoo much time spent pondering. You really can convince yourself that killing yourself is an obligation, your destiny. When you see yourself as a loser your life seems futile and suicide seems logical. What do you do with something that is inferior? You get rid of it. Philosophy & self-evaluationcan make suicide seem like the best decision of your life.

I've heard the news of several deaths of former classmates. I don't recall any suicides but some of them were actually pretty funny. I couldn't help but chuckle when I heard the news.

I'm sorry to hear that, TC. I've never actually known anyone who's ever committed suicide before. I have lost a friend before, though. That was pretty rough. She had a heart problem and died when she was 14 and I was 12.

A buddy of mine back in 99' or so commited suicide by accident, what they told us was he was messing around with one of his father's guns and didn't know that it was loaded. I remember the next day they announced it over the PA that he had died, not too soon after they took me and some of his other friends into a room to talk to us about what had happened, I tried to stay strong and not tear up but once everyone started telling their stories about how they found out I literally lost it, specially when it came time for me to tell my story.

That has happened to me before; my best friend through probably..1st grade to 7th grade commit suicide last December.
After 7th grade we just went our own ways quietely. (I'm a senior now) so I haven't actually spoke to him in over 4-5 years
But I used to have an occasional talk with him maybe once every 2 months or so.
That was pretty shocking to me that he commit suicide (hung himself) We were best friends for a very long time.
Oh well, Got to move on and be strong :)

One of my friends roommates in college committed suicide. He had alot of problems with family and just didn't want to deal with them any more. Very very sad. My heart goes out to any family that looses a son/daughter from suicide.

I have done the same too.

Shes actually like my best friend. We have developed this sort of "brother, sister" relationship over the years (known her since Elementary school).

She had attempted suicide before so I took it very seriously.

Anyways, one of her friends actually commited suicide and it was horribly tough on her as she already had her own problems to deal with. The guy was gay and had been in some bad relationships and then to cap it off he got beaten badly (and possibly raped too can't remember) for being gay.

His idiot roomate decided to offer him some hardcore drugs one day and the dude killed himself while high or whatever you want to call it.

And though I didn't know him, someone in the area I grew up in killed his parents and then himself. His brother is having an absolutely HORRIBLE time coping because his brother had planned to kill him to but he just so happened to be staying the night at someone elses house the night it happened....

I am really sorry to hear of your loss man. But dont doubt yourself in these situations, it isnt your fault that this happened, but I understand why you feel bad. Look when someone dies its only natural that other people close to them doubt themselves. But dont, because you done the best you could to keep each other happy. You werent the only one who didnt see it, all his other friends and family didnt see it either.

I am really sorry for your loss though and I hope things turn good for you.

That is sad, never happened to anyone I know which is due to religion. Because according to the religion he who commits suicide goes to hell and gets thrown from the top of a mountain until he reaches the bottom and dies and gets revived to get thrown again for all eternity. Can't describe it as in the native language but it is actually scary.

Sorry to hear that man. I actually found out recently that a friend of mine from high school passed away a while back, but I had no idea. No idea how it happened though. Just got a letter in mail about 2 months ago reminding me about my high school reunion at the end of October and there in a section devoted to lost/deceased classmates was his name. :( He was a pretty cool guy too.

That's terrible..I know a few people who took their own lives. Hardest funnerals I've been to. If everyone else there felt like I did.. You always think "I could of helped him...Why didn't he ask for help."

No, but I was told someone from my class had been killed in a freak accident, to which I replied "Good". The person who told me thought that was pretty cold, but then I reminded him what this guy was like, and what he did to both me, and him, and asked him a question that harkens back to my favorite line from the Splinter Cell videogames star Sam Fisher, "Can you give me one good reason this world isn't better off without him?". He couldn't.

That's terrible..I know a few people who took their own lives. Hardest funnerals I've been to. If everyone else there felt like I did.. You always think "I could of helped him...Why didn't he ask for help."

Usually suicidals don't ask for help because there isn't any help to be had. Yeah, some people commit suicide for stupid reasons, but a lot kill themselves because they have major problems in their lives that, when you look at it from a realistic point of view, may have never gone away. And usually those problems are ones that a mere friend can't help out with anyway (things like losing your job, failed marriage, failing out of school, etc).

Well, killing yourself certainly seems like the best solution for any of the problems you mention there, certainly not finding a new job, working on your marriage/getting a divorce or studying harder.
