The media can be stupid at times. If he didn't know it, ok but there's no need to talk about someone because they didn't know about something or they got confused. I don't really care for him but some of these people really need to get a life instead of criticizing or judging(or whatever)about whatsomeone almost everytime they do something.

[QUOTE="Tangmashi"]

I do hate the ignorance shown by this 16 year old kid, and more so the people that defend it. I'm not taking him out of context, I'm using his own words. The interviewer even said 'German, german, you know german?'. Then he says he 'never heard that before, we don't say that in America.'

You're also just trying to win an argument by pinning me as prejudiced against this kid. I only heard of him about 2 weeks ago, but I am prejudiced against ignorance. Ignorance should be held accountable and ridiculed by everyone that knows what this kid said. I'm not taking him out of context, I'm using his own words. The interviewer even said 'German, german, you know german?'. Then he says he 'never heard that before, we don't say that in America.'

If he said Prussian, Barvarian or Saxon, well then I might understand, but still if he didn't then maybe he should have said 'Can you explain what said word means'? Nope, we don't say that in America, certainly I never have

DriftRS

He thought "German" was some expression, the interviewer used the word German as an adjective as in for example "That game was so German!" In which case, the kid did not know what "german" meant, and he never did "hear that before". The interviewer used the word German in a context that didn't make sense.

Exactly. I don't like Bieber, but people who are making fun of him for this are stupid - plain and simple. Make fun of him for his music or girly physique. Not for a misunderstanding.

So is Bieber truly the word for basketball in the german language? Oh and I saw the video and there was confusion about the question.

The interviewer showed him the question on paper though...

The press and media mock people everyday. Just because it's Justin we should all feel sorry for him and sue every news agency who dislike him? I can't stand him. So I couldn't care less. Maybe if he wasn't so annoying the media would be kinder to him.

It's just a dumb misunderstanding. I don't like the kid (I should say I don't really give a crap about him) but he's not that dumb. The interviewer phrased the question poorly. Should have been like "Are you aware Bieber means basketball in German?" Ace6301

Bieber means "Beaver" in German. That interviewers question makes no sense. Germans are referring to basketball as basketball.

i could understand making fun of him if that question actually made any sense. but if what you said in the OP is true, then it looks like they were just looking for a reason (a pretty stupid one, at that) to make fun of him.

I doubt the interviewer did it on purpose, he just wasn't a very good interviewer. Then the media channels attempt to get the story out asap, and none of em bother to check the facts in the rush. I would think they could be held accountable for this. Defamation in the media is illegal, and on this size and scale... especially with the lack of fact checking and negligence. It's not the biggest isue in the world, but if I were in his shoes I'd be pissed enough to want to do something about it.

Um no he was in New Zealand, watch the video and it is pretty clear he had no idea what the word German meant/was...even after looking at it.

Ah that would explain the accent of the interviewer. Still I'm not convinced that he doesn't know what Germany is or that german is a language.

I disagree. The kid is stupid. Anyone with half a brain knew what he was asking.

Bieber even responded 'We don't talk like that in America, we use the G-word.' Are you freaking serious? This kid is a moron, or he spent his entire childhood living in a bubble.

Tangmashi

Watch again mate, your misinterpreting what happened. The interviewer says very clearly "Is German for basketball" You tell me what that means? I'm guessing he interpreted "German" as some sort of slang, when asking the interviewer to restate the question he says something along the lines of "I don't know what "german for" means"

No, sorry, I'm not stupid enough to misinterpret the meaning to what he said. He clearly asked if it was true or false that Bieber in German means Basketball.

Even with his Aussie accent I understood perfectly what he said, and you haven't even addressed his idiotic comment that we don't use words like that in America which actually confirms that he had no idea what German means because he's a numbskull.

Hate to be pedantic but his accent is a New Zealand one. Also I agree the question was worded absolutely fine, this is how you communicate in the real world, not like you do in written format. Basically this boils down to Americans crying because they have been shown up.

Ha, someone else he looks like a girl. This kid is an idiot, it's not like Germany is an unknown nation like Andorra, Germany is one of the great nations of the World so to not know what Germany/German means is a joke especially considering he has had a Western education. Has he not seen a BMW before and thought "hmm where's that car from?" or maybe during history class thought to ask who his country was fighting in WW1 and 2? Then again he would probably say "What's World War 2?"

I just watched the interview on YouTube twice and there was absolutely nothing wrong with how the question was worded. He even showed him the question on the notecard and said "German" several times. It was quite evident that this Bieber guy didn't know what it meant.

It was worded fine the first time, so let's say we give him the benefit of a doubt and he just didn't hear, the 2nd time the reporter only said "German for basketball" which sounds silly. However the 80 times he repeats German and shows him on the card and Justin says "I don't know what that means, we don't say that in America" is something altogether different..

Noticed this on booting up msn, a news article about justin bieber apparently not knowing what "german" means. In fact, a quick google search showed that news articles everywhere have picked up on this and are now mocking the kid for not knowing what "germany" or "german" is.

Here's the thing, personally I couldn't care less about bieber, but news articles flaming a kid, mocking himand calling him stupid is kinda sick. Especially as they've completely taken the interview it occured in out of context. The kid never said he didn't know wht germany is, here's what the interviewer asked him.

"Bieber, is German for basketball?"

then when the kid asked the interviewer to repeat the question, the interviewer simply said

"Is German for basketball?"

He obviously thought the interviewer was simply addressing him by his name the first time he asked the question, and on asking him to repeat it, the interviewer just repeats that last part, which obviously makes no sense. As a result a media-storm kicks in, and as I've said the kid is being mocked accross the media.

It isn't really right to put a kid through this sort of thing, I'm not for blatant sueing, but I wouldn't much mind if these media publications were sued for slander or whatever else these sort of derogatory comments go under. I'm sure as a public figure he could also get them for loss of sales and tarnishing his image due to unfounded claims, as well as emotional and mental damages.

DriftRS
As soon as that kid signed the contracts and got a multi million dollar PR and publicity machine behind him, he chose to market himself as a product. In exchange for marketing yourself this way, you get the best and the worst, you don't get to chose. You get treated like royalty and get a cushy life others can only dream of, and the flip side is you are open to scrutiny and if you do anything stupid you will be mocked and may even lose your fame. Tough nuggies. I never feel bad for celebrities, except when they are a victim of a genuine tragedy and haven't been pimping themselves mercilessly.
