lol, some people just dont know.
same. katanas aren't meant to be locked in a sword fight.
I'd prefer a regular longsword or a falchion

scimitars look better I reckon but Katanas are cool too, I have 2 katanas, 1 tanto blade and 1 wazakashi. I haven't been able to find a good quality scimitar yet.Whicker89

haha yeah it was a joke! but samuri swords are awesome (they NOT katanas)
[QUOTE="jrhawk42"]swords in genral are overated, they're actually pretty crappy fighting tools. Give me an axe anyday (yes I realize an axe is a newb weapon).Def_Jef88I perfer a Warhammer...
Katana wank from the general obsession lots of teens have with Japanese culture for some reason. It comes from Japan, so it must be god like right?
Katana's are not preferable weapons for anyone who understands true Medieval warfare anyway. Katanas came about, and only worked, historically, as a result of Japan's lack of natural resources. Samurai didn't wear plate armor because they couldn't produce it. And Katanas are very thin, lightweight designs with substantially less metal than english longswords because the Japanese islands lack the natural metals to make long swords.
If a samurai tried to cut down an English Crusader, his katana would shatter like glass against theKnight's plate armor.

Warhammer's are pretty bad ass, but I don't think of them as effcient. They really way too much on brute stength, and you tire out way to quickly.

I perfer Cutlasses myself...Falchions. They're pretty similiar to scimitars....but bigger.Account_27
No they aren't. A Falchion has a blade that tapers as it comes toward the hilt. A scimitar has a blade that curves back.
When it comes to one-handed stuff, I personally favour broadsword mesel, although when it comes to swords in general, I'm a greatsword kinda guy.

when i think of sword fight i dont picture people wearing any armor, kinda takes the fun out of it >.> I don't really know anything about armor but if there were a exposure point in the neck area itd be easy to take out the person..........maybe??
oh i rather use a gun look at my icon :D

if you're going to fight someone you may as well put away your tampons and actually do hand to hand or use swords, that way you have to actually get close to your opponent :P

A warhammer will punch through heavy plate faster than any sword. Other than a waraxe or flanged mace, there isn't much else that did the job as well.
Also, medieval weapons aren't as heavy as everyone thinks they are.

Not really, plate armor is often supplemented with chain mail to protect the joints and neck areas. A katana wouldn't break striking that, but it wouldn't penetrate either.
The movie Rob Roy has a nice sword fight scene in the end where rob roy fights the bad guy with a giant long sword the bad guy has a fencing style sword...awesome sword fight scene. Lets just say the fencing style sword floated like a butterfly stung like a bee but the longsword cut the @#!%$ in half!
My favorite swords
The sword second from the left here looks like it would hurt like a son of a... if you got slashed by itblooddemon666
Mmm, those swords could definitly disembowel you easily. Must of sucked back in the old days in a battle when you got slashed right across the belly, intestines would just fall out.
The sword second from the left here looks like it would hurt like a son of a... if you got slashed by itblooddemon666well yes... but those are fantasy/anime swords. It would also hurt if you got slashed my by a 50 ft broad sword wielded by a little Japanese girl...

Say what you will, but if some guy ever starts twirling a sword around in my face, Ill pull a gun out a put a hole through the sucker, Indiana Jones style. IMO, logic should always come before "honor".[QUOTE="tzar3"]you are joking right? you pick the skinnies sword, and then say katanas look flimsy :P jk with you. That sword is cool. very grily though...I agree with the topic creator, katanas also look flimsy, I would rather use this baby over a katana.

This my friend is a landsknecht sword from germany, towering at 7 feet and 2 inches, used by swiss and german front linesman during the middle ages.
blooddemon666from the drawn pic and this real one, its a pretty big difference... The first one is almost like a 7, while this one just has a curved end. But either way i can still imagine my belly getting sliced open by one of these  and its not pretty :(
Well, European swords weren't nearly as heavy as most people believe, most swords up through the 12th century were designed for one-handed use, as the other hand would have a shield. Later, as European armor improved, the sheild was found to be redundant and was discarded from the battlefield.
You can see a brief overview at the bottom of this page. European armor wasn't as heavy or encumbering as people believe, often modern soldiers carry field packs with more weight on them than a suit of medieval armor.
Also, they tend to get the weight of European swords all wrong, a single-handed sword would generally weigh less than 3lbs, and even the large two-handers would weigh 10lbs or less.
Also, the Katana wasn't a wonder weapon, during the Mongol invasions it was common for japanese blades to bend or break attempting to defeat the mongol's hardened leather armor.
very true. but on the battlefield, the sword wasn't the most common weapon. it was actually the mace or the morningstar.Well, European swords weren't nearly as heavy as most people believe, most swords up through the 12th century were designed for one-handed use, as the other hand would have a shield.
