So... I was just thinking. We invaded Afghanistan with thousands of troops and then sent thousands more to Iraq, but then we finally get the guy behind the 9/11 attacks, it's done with a single stealth helicopter with about 8 highly trained soldiers, in a country we never invaded.

My point obviously is... why did we invade Afghanistan and Iraq? Why didn't we just send out a few stealth helicopters and take down the people who were responsible? In a way, by fighting them, we helped their cause because we gave them an enemy who was actively and openly fighting them.

The FBI has no evidence to claim that Osama Bin Laden was responsible for 9-11.

Many Americans think 9/11, Afghanistan, and Iraq was a conspiracy to make the world more policed and establish oil pipelines for the West in the Middle East.

probably because we took it upon ourselves to fight for our freedom, or theirs, or give them democracy, or to take away their weapons of mass distruction, or fight them over there so they didn't send their army over here.............actually there are a whole lot of excuses for Afghanistan and Iraq.

The goal of Neoconservatives for a long time has been the invasion and democratization of the Middle East. Since the end of the Cold War, that has been the Neocon agenda on foreign policy. They wanted to invade Iraq long before 9/11, and used the hysteria to bolster support for invasion. Same thing with Afghanistan. After 9/11 there should've been a military effort to get the orchestrators and then leave. Not what happened, because a long-term military presence to suppress the Taliban and Al Qaeda was the goal all along.

He was in Afghanistan with his own forces who basically ran the country only slightly better than Somalia.

He expected to get the US in a quagmire conflict like he did with USSR in the 80s, however the US focused more on small elite squads working with and training locals. (aka, anti terror cell tactics)

He then escaped Afghanistan and went into Pakistan and into hiding(where we couldn't easily search for him).

However we still had to fight the forces and allies he left in Afghanistan.

Iraq is not directly related. In our anti-terrorist mindset we were more gun ho in removing thorns in our side.

We believed Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, and he wouldn't budge to let UN thoroughly inspect his dictatorship thoughrily. He called a bluff that wasn't a bluff and we invaded.(No, not nuclear weapons. But chemical & biological ones that any county with pesticide industry could construct with the will, which history proved he had).

Franklinstein

Because Israel and the US are allies. It wouldn't have seemed appropriate for the US military to attack Mossad.

Killing Osama and those responsible means completely dismantling Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. That's not a special forces team with a helicoptor's job.

the reason this whole thing doesnt make sense is because these american governments have been lying to you all along. 9/11 was a blatant inside job. the group al qaeda was even created by the americans themselves ffs!

Alot of people know this, or atleast suspected it. But 9-11 was rigged.

If you watch the video with the plane crash explosion, you can clearly see those explosives go off in a timed fashion around the perimiter of the building. similar to plastic explosives.

we didn't go to war to take out a tyrant, we went to take resources and make connections.

The Iraq war was going to happen regardless of 9/11. Regime change was the official position of the US since 1998.

You're misinformed TC.

Afghanistan's mission was actually a smaller part ofOperation Enduring Freedom (OEF) - The aim was to dismantle regional terrorist organizations including the Taliban and Al Qaida. About 7 regions from the Philipines to the Horn of Africa were involved and the entire NATO coalition participated . It was all part of Bush's "War on Terror" Even if the Afghanistan campaign is closed, OEF will stil continue on in other regions for many years.

Iraq's mission from 2001 to 2010 was Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) - The aim was to topple Saddam's regime and prevent Iraq from acquiring nuclear weapons. However overthrowing Saddam, made us responsible for Iraq's government and economy.

Post 2010, we're now involved in Operation New Dawn (OND) in Iraq which was primarily training Iraqi military forces and boosting their economy.

Hunting Bin Laden was part of a separate operation by the CIA. For obvious reasons, details are unknown. Bin Laden was only one of the reasons why we went to Afghanistan. He was initially in Afghanistan in 2001 but escaped. I believe Bush eventually called of the operations for his hunt.

Because the US Government doesn't want to kill itself? (And no you morons, that is not me saying 9/11 was an inside job, just the US Government was partly responsible for what happen.)

Tell me more about how killing one person will suddenly make terrorist cells go "Oh, he died...better stop doing our antics now..."

You have to try and dismantle all of their activity. Their camps and training centers were in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Afghanistan was a haven state/nation/country for Al Qaida and Osama Bin Laden.

Iraq was invaded for reasons other than terrorism, oil, WMDs, or pure benevolence. It was likely what was perceived the least problematic way to deal with the Saddam problem, with alternative choices being to continue literally starve the Iraqis, or allowing Saddam room to continue his previous atrocities. It was also, quite probably, a disastrous miscalculation.

WMDs were not the reason - just the convenient public justification that the White House used following 9/11. Realistically, Saddam continuously did some very bad things in the Middle East, despite negative international feedback. Attempts to suppress his ability to do continue his funsies also happened to starve Iraqi children. Saddam was a problem, and needed to go, but the cost might have been higher than the returns.

You do realize that Osama Bin Laden's death required an extremely lucky circumstance in which the U.S. had figured out where he was and had the presence to quickly act on that knowledge before his position changed, right? It wasn't like Obama had a sudden epiphany that allowed him to discover an extremely simple solution to a "problem" that had been in the minds of the U.S. public for years. Not even the U.S.A., with its huge and bloated military machine has the ability to completely gut any potential or existing threat with the press of a button short of using nukes.

Al Qaeda and Bin Laden were in Afghanistan. That's a reason for them going there. The Iraq war had nothing to do with 9/11 or Bin Laden. It was an unjust war.

I don't believe that invading Afghanistan and Iraq helped us in any way to find Osama Bin Laden. If we would have moved into Afghanistan quietly, we probably would have been able to get Osama Bin Laden 10 years ago.

Neocons needed a new purpose after the evil empire (Soviet Union) crumbled. The war on terror provided a great new enemy to fight against and gave them purpose and the ability to change the world how they see fit.

You make it sound like the US just invaded Afghanistan by themselves. The fact is the government was run by the Taliban and it was actively protecting and training terrorists openly in the country. It was a justified war.
