40,000 years ago? Wrong.

Scientifically speaking (at least according to wikipedia) the species Homo Sapiens has actually been around for 2.5 million years. However, there have really only been about 3500-4000 years of civilisation. Therefore, when speaking about theology and spirituality, only these 4000 years can be classified as 'human', IMO.

A liberal Christian would probably reply that God waited until Man was civilised enough for his contact, or even that God made them civilized. A more conservative would simply reply that the world has not even existed for 60,000 years, since it says so in the Bible.

Nowhere in the Bible doeos it say definitively how old the earth is...common misconception. And you can take my word for it, because I researched this for about a month straight my junior year in college.

Hmm, heard of geneologies? You must be kidding me.

The bible is such bull. It's all based on astronomy and the Sun. Get over it, the bible is pointless, religion is pointless. The religious myth is the most powerful device ever created. There is zero reality in religion.

You actually believe the world is 12,00 years old?

Bible=Astrotheological Literary Hybrid.

If you dont like the religion threads, dont post in them, ignore them and post in other threads dont just spam with pointless posts in these threads complaining about something that barely effects you

I'm pretty sure the answer you get won't be satisfying...nobody can really know the mind of God whether he/she/it exists or not.

hate to be feeding the fire, but the burden of proof is on YOU. YOU have to provide proof that god exists. in the real world, it is never up to the skeptics to disprove it to prove it isn't truth for it not to be truth.

Actually....no. The proof of anything is on the person that states opinion as fact. Whether on the existence or nonexistence side though it is amusing that atheists can't do so though come up with that convenient comment all the time.

"Modern humans evolved some 40,000-60,000 years ago."

>> How do you know?

"God revealed himself tohumanity for the first time about 3500 years ago when he told Abraham to leave the city of Ur and found a country in Judea."

>> Thats not what we believe. I think that God revealed himself when he shaped the world and its' creatures. I think you may need to re-read Genesis if you are reading the Bible.

"why did god wait nearly 60,000 years before he revealed himself to man?"

>> I don't think he waited 60,000 years before showing himself to people. I tihnk that he created the world around 6,000-years ago because if you read the Bible, it hints it took a short time to create the world. It doesn't say what date the world was created though.

Who knows. Maybe God just felt like it

Not a Christian BTW ;)

[QUOTE="slinky6"]I'm an atheist, so you already know my response, but I'll say it anyway. God doesn't exist.
Ezgam3r

Proof?

Also, the burden of proof is on you since you made the claim ;)

Wrong. Until there is evidence to say otherwise the default position is god does not exist. There must be proof of his existence before someone making a claim that he doesnt exist would need evidence to support his hypothesis.

That what isn't true? There is neither proof nor "disproof". Therefore, you can't make a statement of fact and then say you don't have to defend it. You can certainly state an "opinion" as to yourself...but not to the topic in general. That statement is simply a cop out because they know no better than anyone else whether God exists or not.....so they use that to feel superior. Nonetheless, if you can't defend with facts...keep it as opinion.

That's a question only God could answer.

If someone asked me how Winston Churchill must be feeling right now, in what place am I to answer?

God makes it's own decisions so only he would know why he made them. That should answer your question.

"The proof of anything is on the person that states opinion as fact." I was agreeing with this statement, and commenting that it isn't very convenient when their "the burden of proof rests on the theists" isn't true.

homo sapiens sapiens have not been here for 200,000 years

Adam and eve never existed

I just learned something today. You may have heard this already in the other thread "how do people not question their religion", but for those of you who haven't, I'll tell once more.

There is this 2 year old boy in Michigan who has an auto immune disease. his immune system attacks his own body. This causes horrible health problems. He's been sick since the day he was born. He has diahrrea all the time, horrible hives 3 times a day, and a whole bunch of other horrible things. Now, this really begs the question, why does God allow so many innocent children to suffer? I think I'll make another point

Lets make up a hypothetical scenario. There is this missionary, a world-renowned missionary who has been helping people out in Africa for 60 years. You're probably thinking, what a great person serving the lord like that. But, he has a problem. He tortures babies. He's had hundreds, maybe even thousands of victims, and a whole lot of them died. Are you still going to think of him as a great person? Of course not. So, why should I worship God? Why should any sane personworship a being who tortures and killsbabies? I woulden't be surprised if a completely insane person decided not to worship someone so evil.
