Which musician is the better vocalist and why?

Song writing at least is debatable Maybe.WitchsightAnd the fact that Kurt plays guitar (and I haven't seen Plant play one before, though I could be wrong). But strictly vocals, there is no contest imo. Zep still gives me shivers at times. Incredible.
Plant can hold it better. Kurt's skill wasn't in one thing; he wasn't a particularly good vocalist or guitar player, but instead, he excelled in bringing it all together to create original catchy songs.
They were different, too different imo. Technical skill goes to Plant though.
Robert plant is a much better vocalist - greater dynamic range. Members of Led Zep were better songwriters/composers and lyricists than Nirvana.
That's like Justin Bieber v. Elvis Presley. Kurt Cobain knew how to make stuff sound neat, but he definitely wasn't a talented musician. Robert Plant is an amazing vocalist, with exceptional range.

One's a singer of an overrated band with an annoying fan base and the other's Kurt Cobain.

Kurt was a fan of Zeppelin himself remember and Nirvana did a very good cover of Heartbreaker. :)MystikRex
Of course they did!! I mean enough cocaine and ecstacy would surely make it sound good!
Led Zeppelin fans annoying? I barely know any people that actively brag about listening to Led Zep., but almost evreyone I know listens to them... Meanwhile in the Nirvana camp, annoying 14 year olds who think that Kurt Cobain was the best musician ever and they go around "hatin' life"One's a singer of an overrated band with an annoying fan base and the other's Kurt Cobain.

You should have been around during the '70s and early '80s as even the mention of them would elicit a mudslide of "Dude Zeppelin! Oh my God Zeppelin dude!" to quite the point of irritation as they stumble over themselves to express their Godlike worship of the band and how none can compare.
Personally I've never been that fond of Led Zeppelin (busy listening to Johnny Cash in those days) and far prefer Nirvana as a band. But Cobain is not really known as an amazing vocalist and I can't imagine anybody remotely sane would put his vocal range and overall technique anywhere near that of Robert Plant's.
Interesting. I still prefer Cobain over plant. I still think Led Zeppelin are one of the most overrated bands of all time. Seriously if you compare the two bands Nirvana by far have made better quality records and plant does sound a bit too pretentious. Cobain is still the most fascinating and convincing vocalist from my perspective.
Cobain was a very smart musician. He was good at creating a style and furthering it, but the man hada horrible voice. Plant at least had some harmony in his vocals.
Plant is the better vocalist. Whether with Zeppelin, The Honeydrippers or on his own, he has a presence no one else has.
Wait... how does one person have harmony in his voice?Cobain was a very smart musician. He was good at creating a style and furthering it, but the man hada horrible voice. Plant at least had some harmony in his vocals.

I say Kurt because I mean , c'mon who else can make themselves sound like their voice has been out through a blender?

Too-shay!
Whaaaaaaaat. This is like, the pot calling the kettle black. I'm sorry, any time anyone complains about one overrated band and then favors another severely overrated band, it just makes me giggle. I hate when people throw out "pretentious" when discussing musicians. It makes absolutely no sense and is apt to assault any band with a quality album. I mean, would Nirvana not be pretentious for trying to make the best pop song of all time with "Smells Like Teen Spirit"? How dare they have such ambition and self importance, to think themselves able! /sarcasm Cobain is "convincing", sincere and all that. You know who else is? Jeff Mangum, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Justin Vernon, Win Butler, and hundreds of others. He's fascinating because he died young in his prime, so instead of declining naturally like most musicians over time, he died at his peak and his death spurred his popularity to martyrdom levels. Note the common theme: Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Tupac, BIG, etc.Interesting. I still prefer Cobain over plant. I still think Led Zeppelin are one of the most overrated bands of all time. I love both but I'm gonna have to take Plant on this one. He's a legend...although so is Cobain haha.
Um, this is no contest. Obviously it's Robert Plant. I'm a huge fan of both Nirvana and Led Zeppelin, but you seriously can't compare the two. Led Zeppelin wins every time. As for Axl Rose, he has one of the most annoying, nasally and womanish voices I've ever heard. The fact that Fergie can match his voice (listen to Slash's latest album) almost perfectly says something about the guy.
