Yeah I love the song Acid Raindrops. Good stuff.
A chiptune, or chip music, is music written in sound formats where all the sounds are synthesized in realtime by a computer or video game consolesound chip, instead of using sample-based synthesis.
...
The term has also been recently applied to more recent compositions that attempt to recreate the chiptune sound for purely aesthetic reasons, albeit with more complex technology.wikipedia dot com
I would highly recommend Disasterpeace for those of you who enjoy good prog rock or prog metal and are looking for a new sound. Some of the bands he (Disasterpeace is a one-man band) cites as inspiration are Radiohead, Tool, King Crimson, and Steve Reich. The drums are all sample-based and everything else is chiptunes, the blend is remarkable and the composition is amazing. Unfortunately for some, there aren't any vocals to be heard in any of his music, (aside from a synthesized line from a single song from an obscure release) though I would argue that it's only better for it.
And the drumming! I don't know if the drums are just arranged samples, or if there's someone drumming on top of the track, but either way, they sound amazing and I can only dream of ever playing these songs in RB or GH:WT (you can bet the first thing i'll be attempting in the GH:WT studio are these songs though :P)
If any of you are interested there are some samples available here (just click on an album and there are 1-minute or 30-second clips available for each song) and here (the official, obligatory myspace page). Also, a full album is available for free download here.
---edit---
ermm.. slight factual error: the songs with real drums are on two albums, one of which is unavailable anymore (dunno why, but i got it while it was out :P) and the other is Atebite and the Warring Nations.
The Lost Fingers - Lost in the 80's... they're a new Montreal based jazzy trio, this CD is made out of covers of well known songs from the '80s. I'm not gonna argue that it's the best CD around, but I thought their sound and ****was definitely interesting, and I'd recommend anyone to listen to it at least once.
Pump Up The Jam
You Give Love a Bad Name
I always buy albums so theirs to many to list...but most recent would be
American Gothic-The Smashing Pumpkins
what's with all these people buying non-mainstream albums just to be different?
i understand that there are people who genuinly like the music, but a lot of people dismiss mainstream bands simply because they're mainstream. i don't really understand this. maybe it's some kind of elitism.
anyway, mine was dethklok the dethalbum and ten thousand fists by disturbed.
Why would anybody lie on what they bought? Well, mine is "OO Void" by Sunn O))). a cookie to anyone who knows them.what's with all these people buying non-mainstream albums just to be different?
