I'm finally decided on a tattoo to get and I thought it would be nice to hear what some of you think about tattoos: visable tattoos in the workplace?  like em don't like?  got some? post pics if you'd like, I'd love to see some. I'm going to get the lyrics  "Jai Guru Deva Om, Nothing's gonna change my world " tattooed on my left fore arm, the sanskrit mantra in a faux sanskrit font with the english line in Italics beneath it.

Not a good idea if you want to advance in most work places.

I feel like the stigma has gone away some, I mean, if a woman can get implants in the office and no one says a thing why can't I get a tattoo. Besides we have both long and short sleave workshorts, at the very worst I feel like I would just have to stick to the longsleave ones to cover it up.

As good as it sounds the other guy is right. Companies do not like their staff to be individua and look bad upon tattoos, piercings etc. I am looking at getting a Demon carrying an Angel on my back, I want the Angel to be holding the Lament Configuration from the Hellraiser movies, and underneath I am having my daughters name in the "Olde English" style font. I also want, on my upper left arm, St George slaying a dragon. I am not sure how many I will have after that, but I just love the idea of body art. 8)

Don't get a very visible one. I have had around 3 job opportunities but have been rejected because of my tattoos (14 as of yet.)

I made the mistake of getting one on my neck. Those are a pain in the ass to try to hide..

Most hirer ups don't care as long as you're not showing the tattoo especially around clients and such.  Unless your working in a place that has a uniform and it's not on your hands, face or neck you can cover up a tattoo for most situations.  With the exception of a few jobs those with uniforms tend not to be to desirable (mcdonalds/best buy ect) so most of the time these places do not have a tattoo policy.  The forearm is a bit tricky to cover up since you have to wear long sleeved shirts, but I've noticed about all my dress shirts are long sleeved, and a place that is not likely to hire you because of a tattoo is likely not to hire you because you wore short sleeves.

As for tattoo's 90% of them are bad you should really spend alot of time figuring out exactly what you want and more importantly why you want it.  It's sort of funny since tattoo's end up being in for a penny in for a pound sort of things, after you get one you'll be getting a couple others and after about 10 tattoo's you'll probably end up w/ 1 good one.

I've spent the last year thinking up ideas and figuring out why they're important to me, as well as scoping out the local scene finding an artist that has the same ideas and interests as myself, that way he'll be doing a tattoo that he also enjoys so he'll put more TLC into it. I'm pretty confident a long sleeve shirt will do the trick, even if I were to transfer offices dress shirts still look better in long sleeve

I dont really thing there is that much of a stigma against tattoos in the workplace since tattoos are so commonplace these days.  Unless your working in a white collar profession where you are dealing directly with clients (i.e. bank teller, teacher) and cannot cover your tattoes with clothing , I wouldnt worry about it at all.

i got fidelitas(latin for loyalty) across my back with a gothic-style (the real gothic not the tards at hot topic) cross underneath it  that goes all the way down my back. i wouldnt get a forearm tattoo if i were you, and most decent tattoo artists will tell you that if youre in the job market its nearly impossible to get a job with a visible tattoo.

I have 4 i got one on my chest when i was 15 (thought i was cool turns out it sucks), i have a mario M emblem on my right shoulder, one on the back of my neck that says the undying (not because of the game, the word has sentimental value to me) and a picture i drew for a graphic novel with the word CHAOS under it (Chaos spelt CHA05, my initials and the year i started writing) but my advice with tatoos get reviews before you go to a certian artist because someone messed up 2 of mine and now i have to get them fixed at my expense Edit: the chaos one is on my left forearm, so as far as visible tattoos at work goes as long as you have it before your hired there really nothing they can do about it
