I would think that would allow them to not stress so much about pleasing a higher being or going above and beyond their natural human nature just to get into an afterlife that nobody could tell you exists for sure. Man i love being a christian :PchicknfeetNot really. Maybe if you believe in God, you would feel there was a purpose for your life, a reason why you were created, and u might even feel better about being loved by a Higher Being. That's maybe, though.
No, i do not constantlydread death. No, i no longer worry about it. I've accepted it and havemoved on with my life. :)
and no, it doesn't suck to be me. Thank you.
[QUOTE="bradleybhoy"]I think very few people are true atheists.seals44
True... I think really deep down they have some kind of faith, but just don't want to admit it because they are worried about the possibility of Hell
OMFG, that is so ridiculous. I think most people aren't religous, I think deep down inside they know that God doesn't exist, you see how I did that.
I promise atheists are really atheists.
[QUOTE="Conanfan1"]Having to blindly believe in something just because you're afraid of dying must be worse.seals44

You're not exempt from death...I guess that means you're dying along with the rest of us.

Just think about the possibility of ETERNAL punishment though. Doesnt that at least scare you in the least, even if you dont believe in it? Thus you have even the litttelist amount of faith through fear.

It's your religion that gives you comfort, but you jump through hoops to appease your religion. I on the otherhand am carefree and I don't worry about dieing because I don't worry about heaven and hell. I just wish to leave my mark and peace out.

Anyone would be scared of eternal punishment, but that doesn't mean I believe in it. And it certainly it doesn't mean I would believe in a Christan god in order to escape it.
Lets use that argument too amirite
just think about the possibility of a billion elephants trampling over you in five seconds. Doesn't that scare you in the least, even if you don't believe in it? I think you need to get to higher ground.
Remember kids, the possibility is just as proven/likely as me being Jesus in disguise.

In your opinion. I believe that I will be placed in a wooden box and buried in a 6-foot hole. Afterwards, I become worm food.
But hey, I'll be dead. I won't give a ****.

LOL your religion is what taught fear and guilt.. I'm not scared of hell in the least.. i know that hell was made up to scare people and just more fearmongering from religion.. government does the same type of fear mongering and propaganda..
[QUOTE="fatzombiepigeon"]And Christians walk lovingly into death's loving embrace?

Some do....
Without any mourning from losing everything their human life has given them? What if they leave behind a wife? Or a newborn baby? It could be years or a century before they are reunited. I find it hard to believe anyone here with any kind of relationship or close family could just walk away with absolute comfort.

That is an absurd statement just like the idea of hell is absurd.

Why bother? I'm just fine believing what I want. At least I don't have to sacrifice my free time going to religious gatherings. I usually spend that time doing things rewarding to myself, and I won't give it up because someone told me I was going to an imaginary negative place when I die.
You guys think there is nothing after death. You must constantly be dreading dying, worrying about it and how you will never remember anything after it etc. ***** to be you I guessseals44
Seals44, you're a terrible disappointment. I'm quite serious. :(
so what happens if you die and find out that christianity isn't the right religion? wouldn't that put you in the same boat as the supposed atheists that fear death?chicknfeet
The creator of us has many names in many different religions. As long as you believe in a creator of everything who loves us than you will be saved

I'm afraid I doubt many can speak those same words, and that even fewer could have any meaning in them. They're hollow. Either way, I don't care. Right now I don't know about any of it and have pretty much dropped the hurry to learn it. It's good you have that closure, but I assure there are athiests out there who do not fear death, because some people may find that from an experience, not a promise made by one in a million religions. Some say they stop fearing death after seeing and dealing with it, if possible. That also refers to athiesm.
Everyone fears it regardless of what is promised on the other side, at least to some extent. It's because there's always that quiet little voice in your head that asks all the "what if" questions. It's maddening. Why I try not to think about it. From either side. Maybe that voice is gone from your head, but there are athiests on this very board that have said the same things.
