[spoiler] Saw this movie nights ago - quite dry and detailed but I liked it as thankfully I'm interested in the detail, like on how they got the votes to abolish slavery. Really think it could have expanded though into other areas like the Civil War which I would have liked to have seen instead of just skipping through it. Although, I'm British and would be less familiar with it - maybe in America you've heard enough about the Civil War and would prefer it to be focused. [/spoiler] And on TC's post: Only read the first sentence (sorry, walls of text just put me off) but yeah, you're right: it's a history film rather than an epic like it was advertised. People like me who like detail, history etc will like it but those wanting a Hollywood action movie about the Civil War would be disappointed, yes.
Well it won Baftas and will probably win Oscars so I doubt it's a terrible movie, sounds like it's not your sort of film.

the only award Lincoln took at BAFTA was best actor for Daniel day lewis.Â
Lincoln the movie hardly won anything at any of the awards, best movie and director both went to Argo at the BAFTA
For oscars, director might go to spielberg, since Affleck was not nominated, but it's just as like to go to Ang Lee. Argo will prob take best picture at Oscars.
I really hope it doesn't get much more than best actor for Daniel day lewis at the Oscars.

Best Adapted Screenplay is a given, probably Best Director, Costume Design, and possibly Best Supporting Actor.
I think adapted Screenplay will likely go to Argo/Silver linings playbook, but I could be wrong. Best Director, yep probably, still David o russell, and Ang Lee are competitive enough to put some doubt in that. Costume design really is likely to go to Anna Karenina if not Les miserables.Â
Best supporting actor, Tommy Lee Jones is leading, but I'll pulling for De Niro for Silver linings playbook. :)
