Well, some people think hip-hop is just crap.So what. A hater is a hater. Lots of people hate rap just cause they've been influenced by others who do. Anything to fit in, ya know? Besides, if you like it, that's all you should care about. Plus, look at how long hip-hop has been around now...I remember back n the early 90's my mom was talking baout how it was just a fad like disco, and would eventually fade away. Obviously, that's not the case. It has staying power, and for good reason.
The people who understand it, know what I'm talking about. Everyone else will continue to cling to what they are used to, until they wise up on their own and realize the purpose that hip-hop music serves in our society.
There are also alot of Rock haters among the Hip-Hop community as well. Trust me, in NYC, I've seen them, alot.
And alot of people who listen to Rap, listen to it, NOT for the lyrics, but to thier excuse....just the Beats. Also, many hip-hoppers DO Try to fit, too. They're called conformists. But there are many types of conformists everywhere in all forms of music/genre.
As far as the Longevity of Rap. Yeah, its been around for over 30 years. But these so-called "artists" LACK the staying power. The Genre has lasted, but the artist don't. Almost usually, hyped Rappers spewl out albums after albums, relying heavily on mainstream radio-video rotations to promote thier albums and thier singles. After a couple of years, they all end up either a Has Been or Producing or just a nobody. Which is why Rap is a genre I can never ever take seriously.
