[QUOTE="Sajedene"][QUOTE="D3nnyCrane"] Now ask the people who said that if theyhave actually read it.

fidosim

Yeah... I think people who say that either have a sick obsession with whales or really have never read it.

My theory is that when books like Moby Dick came out, people had nothing better to do for fun than to sit around and read, so it naturally won acclaim. Then generations later, people just assume it's a great book because of what people said back in the day.

That's probably it. I could have sworn at one point he repeated himself a few chapters down and went on describing the Narwhal AGAIN!

LOL @ that link Denny.

This. :P I'm not sure other than that. I've read large portions of many books but have not actually completed many. I'm not sure which was the longest though.

Ulysses by James Joyce. And I could only ever tackle a few pages at a time, which made it even worse.

Oh God, that's on my reading list for next semester. It's going to be torture trying to analyse that properly. War and Peace anyone?

I can't choose between the two, because they're both self-contradictory and logically absurd.

If it counts, the Bible.

If not, my second choice would be Battlefield Earth, by L. Ron Hubbard, at 1,050 pages.

Hmmmmm...I guess the longest single volume story that I can think of is Dostoevsky's "Brothers Karamazov" which was in the 900's and Dumas's "The Count of Monte Cristo" which clocked in around 1300 pages or so. I've really slacked off in my reading over the past 5 years or so as I've been busy with films and work combined with other life distractions.

Hmm... Probably one of the Harry Potter books, or one of the LOTR books, or possibly Dune.
