Guys I am close to getting my first "fun car". I am somebody who is settled in life. Married, kids in their mid to late teens and have a good, steady career. I am looking at getting something in the "American Muscle" category. My choices are Dodge Charger R/T or SXT, Dodge Challenger SXT, Ford Mustang GT or Chevy Camaro.

Ford has the most high performance engine this muscle car gen so if you want power go with them.

I personally would do with an SRT8 charger, but a plum purple which they don't make with the new challenger lights.

I forgot to mention in my original posting that I have a personal budget or under 30K!! Which is why I probably wont go for the Camaro SS, Charger SRT8 or Boss 302 Mustang!! I have a hard time justifying $40-50K for a car!!! Im not rich!!!

I had a Mustang, and I would have personally chose a Camaro had they been out in 2007. Just my 2 cents.

I prefer the dedan bodystyles myself. this things have rediculous horsepower and suspension to back it up. Fastest 4 door around the nurburgring for a reason!

The CTS-V wagon too, the actual name escapes me, but man are they amazing too, a station wagon that'll blow the doors out of a Mustang GT and Camaro SS is just hilarious.

Dollars.. Norway is hilarious when it comes to cars.

Oh it has CO2 emissions, we gotta have a tax rate for that. Quickly 4K extra for that.
Then we got weight of the car. If it weights around 1500kg ( 3300 lbs) you can add another 13K.
Last one is a horsepower tax... Now it becomes hilarious. Want a car with 300hp, you gotta pay another 50-60K or so compared to one with 100-110hp...

Yeah if you want a sportscar here, you will pay about 60-85% to the government for it, and 15-40% goes to the shop selling you the car...

It really is xD most people think that just because it has a muscle car bodystyle and a V8, that its a high performance machine, which is furthest from the truth in most cases of todays muscle cars. I really want a good sports wagon honestly. combine practicality of the wagon to the suspension and raw horsepower of a high performance car, and that is a good mix for me :)

They don't need spectacular power/torque outputs because the Elise and Exige weigh practically nothing. They're stripped down and spartan... especially the Elise. But for the money, they're the best handling (and some of the quickest) cars you can buy.

As for the TC, get the Mustang GT. The Charger and Challenger are both bloated, slow, and handle like boats. The Camaro SS is better than the Dodges, but the GT nearly blows them all of the water in terms of performance and handling. Probably two of the major things you're looking for if you want a "fun car" like you said.

Edit: This is only if we're talking about 2011 or newer cars. Before that, the GT was more comparable to a pile of sh*t.

My advice is to go test drive them all and see which one you like the most. I'd go with the Mustang GT but I'm biased because my family owns one and I plan to eventually get a Mustang myself. I like the Camaro also but the dash is ugly and the car tends to be slightly more expensive and is more on fuel. The mustang has a way nicer interior, and in my opinion a much nicer exterior also.

Avoid dodge for cars.

Funny because the 2012 Dodge Challenger SXT has a stock 305 HP 24v V6!! Meanwhile the Mustang V6 has a measly 200 HP. Granted, I'd love to get the HEMI V8 in the Charger or Challenger, or the Mustang GT 5.0, but at my price point that may not be possible unless I find a tremendous deal on a used model. 305 HP in a V6 is pretty nasty imo!!

I personally have a 2011 Chevy Camaro 1LT RS with the manual transmission and i quite love it. I ordered it brand new and even after taxes and everything it came in under 30K. Now you could get an used SS for under 30 but gas and insurance are probably going to hurt. I get around 24 MPG and i drive "spiritedly". Really you could even get a slightly more used or older Corvette and be faster than nearly all versions of those cars. Mustangs are a dime a dozen and the rear end of the new ones look terrible in my eyes. They are slightly faster because they arent as heavy but they also do not have an independent rear suspension like the Camaro has. The Challenger would be just for the looks since it's pretty heavy and just doesnt have the horsepower and i think you even have the pay extra to get a manual which for me is a negative. @Hadoken, i like how you show a modified mustang and challenger and then a normal SS. There is a huge aftermarket for the Camaro, while not as big as mustang obviously, is very good.

2011 and newer Mustang V6s have 305 hp, too. :| And really, even 305 hp out of even a naturally aspirated V6 isn't the best out there.

2012 Camaro has 325hp though the downside for me is that you can not put on aftermarket headers like you can on 2010 and 11. But the 2011 mustang is like 300lbs lighter which makes up the difference.

My point is though at my price point, I can have an American classic with a pretty peppy engine for about $8-10K less than a V8 which admittedly has godly amounts of HP. If the power of the engine was all that mattered, we'd all be driving rusty, crusty, dusty old 1967 Mustang Mach 1's. The point is that a V6 Charger, Challenger or Mustang still has plenty of get up and go and they look great too!!

And it still looks pretty good to me lol.

http://autos.msn.com/research/compare/default.aspx?c=0&i=0&tb=0&ph1=t0&ph2=t0&dt=0&v=t111711&v=t110966&v=t112978&v=t113918&v=t113268&v=t113500&v=t113924&v=t113808&v=t113840&v=t114922&v=t114820&v=t113829&v=t113694&v=t115058

That link compares 2011 Camaro, Mustang, Challenger and the 2012 Charger. Also you can think about the warranty. Mustang only has a 60K powertrain while the Camaro has 100k. Seems like chevy has more confidence in thier engine and transmission than ford does (for good reason lol).

My 1.8Liter gets 210 Horses (b18c5) and what's a 4.4 BMW V8 get? I'm sure it's not of that caliber compared to my B18(2001 engine).

[QUOTE="M3boarder23"][QUOTE="Fightingfan"] In terms of optimization they don't, their engines suck which is why the turbo/super charge everything.Fightingfan

That's a dumb thing to say, that's like dying American engines aren't "optimized" because they're 6 liters

My 1.8Liter gets 210 Horses (b18c5) and what's a 4.4 BMW V8 get? I'm sure it's not of that caliber compared to my B18(2001 engine).

@Gerg You take my words to literally my friend, I was speaking in my vernacular.

A 6.2L Corvette ZL1 gets 638hp (admittedly with a supercharger but still over 100hp per liter)

What's the inspired only horsepower?Well do some math.

The Germans and American cars just can't compete with the Japanese when it comes to optimization.I believe it has to do with having a smaller stroke which makes it easier to reach higher RPMs faster.

Oh god, I haven't heard the HP/Liter argument in a long time.. Had to be a Honda fan.. I didn't say that either. My 1.8Liter gets 210 Horses (b18c5) and what's a 4.4 BMW V8 get? I'm sure it's not of that caliber compared to my B18(2001 engine). @Gerg You take my world to literally my friend, I was speaking in my vernacular.

U mean 195 HP. And the S54 engine is 3.2 Liters and 360HP

The b18c5? Ops, you're right.

I forgot my engine isn't in the original car(Intergra type-R) it's in a Honda Civic(2000lbs lighter) regardless that's amazing for an 11 year old 4cylinder.

Edit- It varies by serial model, Ebay has em rated at different levels of Horsepower.
