People who hate LA are the ones who can't handle the life out here. They're meant for smaller things in life like suburbia or the farms or some other backwood state. And when they came here they got stuck visiting friends or relatives in the ghetto areas. I mean, would you love a midwest state if your visit was at their trailer park? How can you hate on a state that has Hollywood, the beach, the desert, the snow all within, at most 2 hours of each other? Fantastic weather, fantastic night life, fantastic social scene, music scene, etc etc etc.Sajedene
The exhibitionists, the spoiled rich people, the angry homeless people, the pollution, the hey-I-got-a-Rolex-in-a-pocket-under-my-trenchcoat-for-$25-wanna-take-a-look guys. . . .
Well i'm from Europe, i've always had in my head that LA was the place to be, for some reason...i'm clearly wrong, lol.TheFragcatYeah, I always said if I ever were to live in the USA, it would be somewhere in California.

Sounds like you're also describing New York, Chicago, Miami, and lets not forget the rich folks of Connecticut (old money!), the Texas oil giants, the detroit rap queens, etc etc etc. And btw, in all of my years of living here in LA, I have never seen a person with a trench coat with a 25 dollar rolex for sale inside. Last time I saw that was in the movie "Coming to America" and that was set in New York. Same thing for exhibitionists (only homeless people I see are the "veterans" near the freeway)... I mean wtf... did you come here in the 80's?The LA environment is not...well, its just not pleasant. People from LA are cool, but the area has a negative effect on them so they come off as being jerks.
I hate the culture, too, especially now. My sister went to school there about five years ago and loved LA. She recently moved back there a month ago and she hates it.
Like I said, I dont hate the people of LA or even the outlying parts, but the core and the culture is what I do not like.
*Oh ya, and the traffic alone is more than enough of a reason to avoid LA

I love how people equate Los Angeles to the rest of California. San Francisco, Sacramento, Bakersfield, San Diego, Orange, all completely different places. But if were talking about how California is everything ... being that it is the richest state (more rich than most countries in the world) and has practically everything (except water -- that is until we properly convert the ocean water to drinkable water) -- yeah I have legitimate bragging rights about my state and the city I live in.[QUOTE="helium_flash"][QUOTE="Theokhoth"]Not to mention the self-centered media-obsessed people who think California is everything. The exhibitionists, the spoiled rich people, the angry homeless people, the pollution, the hey-I-got-a-Rolex-in-a-pocket-under-my-trenchcoat-for-$25-wanna-take-a-look guys. . . .

we got the best produce
the best food
some of the greatest breweries
Arnold for governor (even if he almost got my mom laid off five times)
Raiders, 49ers, Chargers, Giants, Athletics, and more
Huge economy, ranked just behind Japan and Germany
Desert, forest, snow, and ocean, often all within driving distance.
Some of the best air quality in the country
Mt Shasta, Yosemite, Big Sur, Monterey Bay, and more
California, on the whole, is just awesome. Oh ya, and the rest of the world doesnt really consider us the US. I got to Europe, people are like "Are you American?" all surly and Im like "No, I am Californian" and theyre like "Oh, ok" all cheerful like lol.

LA isn't the only city with homeless people;)
Pollution is much worse in other countries. China for example
the rolex under the trenchcoat, um yeah that's never happened to me and i've been in LA for 20 years ;)
spoiled rich people? the majority who live in LA aren't rich buddy. I think you're thinking about Conneticut ;)

California has FAR from the best food. I hate seafood though, so maybe that's why. I just prefer great Burgers/Pizza/Hot Dogs, which is what Chicago does best. And I hate every single sports team from California. I can't wait to watch the Chargers choke on Sunday. Although San Clemente Island has the best strawberries I've ever had.when I say food I mean restaurants and chefs. French chefs are leaving their country and where do they go? California, and on occasion Las Vegas. Not to mention all the great culinary schools we have here, and the variety of meats, produce, and specialty ingredients. If I drove 30 minutes, I could get:
Oysters that are still alive
Grass fed beef aged to perfection
Oyster and Chanterelle Mushrooms picked that very morning from the local hillside
and all kinds of ordinary produce fresh from the field
Keep in mind that this is during the winter.
Chicago does have an excellent tradition of producing amazing meat products though, I wont deny that.

I said I hate the Chargers, I didn't say they weren't in the playoffs. BTW check their records for this season. They barely finished with a .500. I guess it's the Bears fault that they have a somewhat tough division (Besides the Lions! :P ).Please Log In to post.
