I'm starting my first diet, and it looks like I could lose 2 lb. per week by taking in 2400 calories per day and burning about 700 by running for an hour. My question is, does it matter where I get those 2400 calories from? (I love mah burgers and pizza.)

Whatever you do: don't eat McDonald's. Wendy's or Jack in the Box will do.

If you eat garbage it is going to be hard keeping your energy up to work out enough.

You could, like you I'm also trying to lose weight. If my sources tell me correctly, however, fast walking will burn more fat than running. You've probably seen those people outside, going a fast walking pace with weights in hand, do that. It'll burn fat quicker, from what I've been told. In the long run (no pun intended) however, if you want to get into actual shape, running AFTER you burn the fat would be a bit more plausible, imo.

You can lose weight by eating fatty food as long as you're eating 500+ calories under your maintenance level witha decent amount of weight & cardio exercise. However, it is not healthy in the long run and you should get in shape by eating the right foods instead of garbage.

Well, first of all, don't just drop to 2400 calories if your normal diet is much higher. Your body will think it's starving, and you'll lose less weight than you'd expect, and put it back on more quickly. You need to ease yourself down.

Yes, while you technically can eat burgers and pizza, try not to eat mostly that, you need a lot of nutrients and fast food tends to be empty calories.

If you just look at energy intake and what you use it should work, but by eating fatty food it is very easy to get more calories than you need, which will give you a problem.

Yes, it matters where you get those calories from. Sugars and fat tend to coalesce and form fatness on your body.

STOP LISTENING TO PEOPLE IN THIS THREAD NOW! I just went down this road. I advise you to pickup "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" to Tom Venuto. Read some reviews. To lose fat you need to create a calorie deficit. This means taking in less calories than your maintenance level. You can eat whatever you like to get those calories, even McDonalds and still lose weight, but you will not be receiving important nutrients you need. 2.lbs a week is the maximum possible fat loss, so it might be a little high. Still reachable. And before people say "No, you can starve for a week and lose, like, 20.lbs", most of that weight would be water and muscle. Diet's don't work because you lose a little fat and a lot of muscle. It's called the starvation response.

Yes, it does matter...it is counter productive, affects your sugar levels so by the time you reach 40s you'llend up havingserious health problems. I suggest you also take Acai Berries (genuine) supplements from Amazon.com

I'm not trying to scare you, eat anything you like just don't overdo it........maybe once a week.

That is very untrue - when I went on a diet and stopped eating so much meat and junk food to a more vegetarian home-made meals, my thighs which compared to the rest of my tiny body made me look like I should be twice the weight I am to look proportionate, shrunk half in size. My chest which was pretty much all fat jiggly stuff (it gave the impression that it was muscle, but really wasn't), became actual muscle.

If you just want to look skinny, you go on the fast food "diet", if you want to be skinny or buff and be healthy, you will need a healthy diet.

Mind you by eating a lot of fast food you will still have very large thighs and probably a bloating stomach and a butt that sticks out, which will look very inproportionate with the tiny body (small shoulders, small head, small lower-leg, small arms) you will be having.

What matters more are calories. If you can eat 2000 or less calories per day eating only fatty foods and you exercise you can still lose weight. It's not recommended though, since with fats are usually accompanied by saturated fats.

Make sure you are getting good nutrients from other sources and eating a burger or pizza every other day shouldnt affect you, as long as you count all the calories and don't eat other junk food throughout the day.

I eat pizza and hot dogs and that stuff pretty often, but i try to avoid the straight up empty calories like soda.

Not in terms of losing weight, but taking in the same amount of fat as you are currently is kind of counterproductive and not particularly healthy. As long as you're getting enough protein, fibre, and veggies, though, a burger or few pieces of pizza here and there aren't going to hurt anything. But if you eat 2400 calories of pizza every day...

No calories give you energy its what comes with the calories that makes you fat, if he were to burn off all 2400 calories everyday hes is effectively not eating and may aswell just make himself puke after eating as it will have the same effect.

If he eats 2400 calories a day he should be having about 3 meals and maybe 1 or 2 snacks if he burns off 700 calories then he is using up energy provided by the foods hes eating to build up his muscles and burn of fat.

Calories dont measure the amount of fat you eat for that you need to check sugar/salt levels in the food you eat.

So much misinformation in this thread...

First of all let's discuss what it takes to lose a pound. In order to lose a pound you have to have a 3500 calorie deficit from you normal caloric maintenance level. To find your maintenance level all you have to do is keep track of the amount of calories you eat each day, for a week, to stay at the same weight.

Second, although I wouldn't recommend going on a fast food diet, it DOES NOT matter what you eat if your only goal is losing weight.

Going by what you posted, your maintenance level would be around 2700 calories because in order to lose 2 pounds a week, you would need to be in a 1000 calorie per day deficit.

By the way, I don't know one single person who loves "mah burgers and pizza" that could come close to running for an hour :).

You can eat fatty foods and still lose weight if you follow the Atkins Diet.

However, you have to forgo carbohydrates, so that means no candy, no pizza, no pasta, no fries and no bun with your cheeseburger. :?

Yet I went from 200-188 in ten days, with a very healthy menu.

It doesn't matter. You can eat whatever you want as long as you don't exced the calorie limit. I lost 105 lbs. and I ate fast food twice a week.

As long as you exercise it off, you will lose the weight. It's easy to stay skinny. Most fat people are fat because they start to live a lazy lifestyle. When you don't burn off what you eat, your body gains fast, and thus you gain weight. You can eat whatever but I suggest 50% of the time, eat a healthy and good portioned meal.

as long as you don't go overboard, or limit any variety in your diet pizza, and burgers are fine. The fat, and such will effect your metabolism, but enough to worry about cutting it completely out of your diet. You should always practice a balanced diet, and 3 meals a day. Basically just remember all that crap they told you in health class. I would also recommend making the last meal the lightest since it'll effect your nighttime metabolism the most. A heavy meal at night will mean storing calories instead of burning them.

I used to be a chubby porker when I was younger. I went on a diet a few years back and its kept me pretty happy. I stopped eating stuff like McD's, Wendy's, etc, etc. The main thing, though, is that I cut out soda. Seriously, it makes a huge difference. I've been drinking water, 2% or skim milk, orange juice, and sometimes some energy drinks (twice a week) after working out. Soda really packs on the pounds. I can still eat pizza and other stuff on weekends, but I just keep it healthy all 5 days of the work week. It's been a satisfying and healthy few years. Also, no soda and candy = whiter teeth! :)

Of course, it matters where your calories come from. Think about it. I love pizza, as well...but how much nutritional value does a pizza have versus a nice salad?

Keep it in balance. You can keep eating foods like pizza and burgers, but keep in mind they have very little nutritional value. You really need to eat vegetables and fruits, as well. Eat them raw, if you can...you will benefit more from raw veggies and fruits.

yes it does matter, if you get a lot of fat, that is bad. but if you get the calories from good food, then itll be all the much bttr. i mean.. you can get the calories from eating butter and pure fat, i mean you could eat like 20 pieces of pepperoni and get 1k calories, but itll be all the harder to work that off.

you can pretty much lose weight eating whatever you want although there are some very big side effects for doing so. A diet to lose weight can be done a couple of ways and yours is not healthy. your body would probably not respond that well to it and u will probably not get daily requirements for many food groups and types.

eating fatty foods will take a lot of excercise to burn off, if i can recall it was like a 30km run after eating a burger (not 100% on the distance but it was a big number), fat doesnt burn first as sugars are, and it takes prolonged time at moderate speed to burn off fat, so its not a good idea to eat fast foods while dieting

yes it does matter. we all enjoy burgers and pizza but as a wise man once said " to get what you never had, you got to do what you've never done" so please start by cutting out the burger and pizza. now my advice to you. the money you were going to spend on burgers go to Subway(or any place like it) and get a nice Sub. You must have a plan together for what you'll eatso do a little research ( google is your friend) on tips to start a diet. plus start a workout program nothing to hard just to get your body moving daily. one more thing eat more friuts.

In terms of weight loss, no...it does not matter where you get those calories from. The only proven (and healthiest) way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat slightly fewer calories than you need.

In terms of health, however, yes it does matter...you do not want to eat nothing but burgers because thats bad for your heart. You also need a diverse, healthy diet so you get your vitamins and you can work out harder.

If youre actually going to be jogging for an hour you'll want to stick to the traditional ratio of 60% carbs, 30% protein, and 10% fat (or less).

I think you also need to consider the quality of the food you eat. Get all the vitamins and minerals you need. And I can't see you getting that with a diet of pizza and burgers. Maybe only have them as a treat.

losing weight while eating fatty foods reminds me of those people who order everything on the menu and a diet coke -_-
