I remember seeing a Mod a while ago who only had 800 posts, and I've just seen a more recent one who had 1,800. I know that post count really doesn't matter, but is 800 really enough to evaluate if they'd make an effective mod?

At what point do you think a user should become a mod (level, posts, time here, etc)?

I believe they should come a mod if they haven't done anything wrong and can follow the TOU.

Mods aren't chosen based on anything accept whether or not they are helping the community.

I'm sure reporting users for breaking the rules helps. Also helping out in the welcome newbies forums would help.

As long as they do a good job, I don't care what level/post count they have. Though, I'd much prefer them to be a regular at the board they moderate at.

5000 posts? I don't know, I think they do a fine job picking them now.

Some of them are specialist mods. They got a few who lurk out in news comments and the such, so they might have an immense amount comments compared to posts. Or maybe there just aren't very many who sign up (due to mods being disliked) so they accept what they can.

Eh... doesn't make for a good mod if all you do is just stay there.

But that's exactly my thoughts on this. How can someone be a regular with just 800 posts? Hell, air6 made a topic a short while ago asking what people thought of him and a vast majority didn't considering him regular enough to be recognised at 2,000.

I doubt much screening is actually done. If you haven't trampled on anyone toes, are relatively mod free and ask for it....you have a chance. It's just a forum dude.

Just b/c they don't post much doesn't mean they are not in the shadows watching and reading. TBH I rather see mods that lurk more than post b/c then its harder to find out when they are around. if all they did was post and mod us it would be way too easy to know when they aren't on line which isn't a good thing.

I think experience is a necessity. How can you affirm someone is a good user if they never post.? It's politics like anyting else in life anyway....

*shrugs* There is nothing in TOS that has a requirement for being a Mod. You just gotta try and actually want to be helpful.

I diidn't say because they post. I said you can't tell if they don't post. World of difference. Someone with a low post count SHOULD have a low moderation count. It's the higher post count with some history behind it that tells you how they conduct themselves. See the difference?

Yes, above 2,000 and you cannot be a mod.
