PLEASE READ QUESTION FIRST!!!

If I'm going to be daily computer stuff, like going on the internet, writing documents, homework, NO GAMING, which should I get?

Currently I have a Macbook Pro, and I have Office 2008 Suite, but it's not like it is on Windows/PC. But I like everything about my macbook pro. It's sleek, nice, good battery, pretty light (for me at least) but the Office Suite seems to get some getting used to.

Mac.... I used to use windows PCs, then I bought a Mac and unless something goes terribly wrong with Apple, I won't be going back to Windows PCs. Macs are so much better and so much easier to use than windows PCs.

You could always use Linux if you're the programming type, but OSX by far is the way to go. You might not game that well, but for stuff like uploading photos, recording music, or light video editing, you won't go wrong with Macbooks or Macbook Pros.

I think the Mac is better functionality-wise and it has a better user interface, but there are a lot of things you can do with a PC that I like.

PC = Cheaper, better hardware, far more software to choose from, most likely to be used by any classes that require use of a computer Mac = More expensive, hardware that's on average 2 years older than current PC hardware, small software library, unlikely to be required by any classes Your choice. Unless you're a film student I'd go with a Windows laptop.

I'd go with a PC. As long as you are careful, you'll have no issues with viruses/spyware, and PC's have more programs and whatnot available for them when compared to Macs.

I will always be a PC man but honestly you should just look at what you want to do and research it. Whatever you think is best is the choice you should make.

Every program on a PC is also on a mac except for some games. The difference between a PC and Macs when its comes to viruses/spyware is that even if you are careful you still need some virus detection/deletion program. These programs all make you PC slower. Mac users dont use antivirus programs, they aren't needed.

No they don't make it slower. I have kaspersky internet protection, that protects everything from internet to my normal files. It runs in the background with very little memory usage.

And when you have processors/Hard Drives/RAM's that are much bigger, and cost much less on a PC, it will be faster anyways.

I've never used a more elegant, more convenient computer than my MacBook Pro. It's perfect for schoolwork and internet browsing. Mac laptops are speedy, rarely crash, and the trackpad is just unreal.

There are plenty of Mac viruses out there dude. They're just not as common as Windows viruses, but they still exist and Mac is the second most infected platform after Windows (Linux distros are what you want if you don't want to have to bother with virus protection although even they have a few viruses themselves). Also, a decent PC isn't going to get slowed down by security software. And Mac doesn't have all the programs that Windows has. Far from it. And Mac isn't just missing "some games" it's missing "nearly every game".

Agreed, and the comment "Mac's don't need anti-virus" is pretty ignorant. All computers are susceptible to viruses, in fact there are known viruses out for Mac computers today, its just the fact that over 90% of users are on PC, so hackers go with the bigger market. Even Apple recommended having anti-virus for OS X but had to remove that suggestion after criticizing PC with the Mac vs PC campaign that Mac's don't get viruses. http://www.informationweek.com/news/hardware/mac/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=212201455

Dealing with the trackpad, my new laptop has scrolling with 2 fingers, zoom in/out with pinch, and other gestures.

The PC excels in the sheer size of the library of utility programs.

Windows makes it easy to install peripherals, with plug-and-play, and installing device drivers.

Mac is far better than Microsoft, but since I play a lot of games and use custom machines I have no choice to use windows. Each version is inferior to the previous. With a new windows you get more bugs, more incompatibility, the drivers are sloppy. They cover all of this up with a sleeker interface. By the time they actually fixmost of this **** they are pushing a new operating system.

New OS's are buggy by nature. But after a bit of time and updates, it gets fixed. Windows 7 is nigh perfect if you ask me. Runs everything without problems and at good speed.

PC. If you want any kind of control over the platform, and don't want to pay through the ass for it, then go with a PC. If you want to pay for the brand name, and have a simplified and streamlined experience with much less customizability, then go with the MAC.

I voted for the second option. If you will just be doing general stuff, why pay for a logo featuring an apple when you can get more for less by purchasing a PC that isn't produced by Apple?

And in the low-end:
.
Apple's i3 + 4670 computer costs me $1,331.90.
.
$811.07 if I build it myself and used Windows. A difference of $520.83. That's 64.22% more.

PC every time. Maybe if I was rich and I needed some place to blow my money I'd get a mac, but then again I could just blow it on a really expensive super PC so that's very unlikely as well.

I would get a PC. They're way cheaper than Macs and you never know what programs can be useful to you.
