A man in Michigan used his Wife's password to access Her Gmail account, and out She was having an affair. He now stands accused of felony computer misuse charges. This is ridiculous.

The maximum penalty for computer misuse is five years. Clearly this pathetic man should be chemically neutered. Its absurd in American society the way womyn are confined and forced into humiliating roles by a corrupt imperialist patriarchy. Men are allowed to abuse and intimidate, and even when they are punished, as in this case, it is never severe enough.

Third Wave!!

That's....strange. He discovers her having an affair, and gets charged. Although, it does beg the question. Why was he trying to gain accesss to her email address?

My emails are personal if my significant other wanted to read it they should ask, although I would never cheat. Sneaking around and stealing passwords is wrong but a felony charge is a bit much in this situation.

Ah ok, I don't blame him for checking the mail if he was suspicious, I've seen people with these types of things on their facebook/Email all the time.

He probably suspected it and started snooping. This is crazy. A husband and wife should have enough trust and have enough in common to not have to worry about what the other is doing and so should have no secrets.

I am laughing so hard right now. That guy got kicked in the d*** twice. He finds out his wife is cheating and then gets a felony for it doing what droves of people have done before. Dear god, this man is going to an hero.

So i guess the moral of this story is, if you are going to invade your wife's privacy by snooping in her email, you should definitely choke and or beat her ass afterwards since you are getting charged with a felony either way?

Insane.

Well, this seems awfully murky... I can get behind thinking that snooping around email passwords is wrong, but five years? *Abuse*? I doubt it. Also, she was cheating on him.

Wait why is no one talking about the first post made by the TP? Unless he was being sarcastic but it didn't sound like it. In any case, women go through men's emails all the time to check if they are cheating. This case is ****ed up. Though doing so by either party is a violation of privacy and will probably lead to even more tension between the man and women, it isn't criminal at all.

I can't possibly see the charges sticking. Five years for what? Going through your significant other's e-mail? Geez, you might as well make going through your spouse's purse a felony while you're at it. The entire case also reeks of double standards. If it were the guy cheating and the wife snooping, you could bet everybody would be applauding and defending her while making the guy out to be a cheating pig.

This is ridiculous. If you don't want people finding stuff out by reading your emails, don't put the stuff in your emails or don't let anyone find out your password. Private email is not some sacred right. What's next, are people going to get charged for looking at a persons cell phone to check the callers list? Anything you put in writing, online or not, can be found out and turned against you. All I can think is that if the situation had been reversed and it was the woman reading the emails, she would be considered a hero for exposing the big bad husband.

Sure it's ridiculous but when hasn't abusing authority been ridiculous? It just proves that governments and courts can do whatever they want. Rights & ethics are just bull. you don't have any rights and they don't have ethic. Apparently any randomjerk can make the decisions.

It just seems to me that abusing authority is common. It seems most people can't handle authority. Discretion is beyond them. They fill the position for all of the wrong reasons. Just fishing for someone to antagonize. You would think someone would step in and just say "No, that is juststupid and if we allow this all of usappear feeble-minded." then say to the person allowing this to be a serious consideration"Did you fall on your head recently? How areyouqualified to fill this position? How? Are you high?"

Sounds more like a harrassment scenario. People within the system are harrassing him just because they can. They should bedischarged on the spot, but someone will cover for them. Because really who takes these kind positions other the people who want to abuse these positions? I don't want to do it and you don't want to do it, there is no incentive. BUT it's perfect for a person with an abusive personality. The position gives them the ability to harass people, which is what they love andintend to do. So like everything else the system is screwed up becuase the people that corrupt itare the only peoplewho want to work within it. As ridiculous as it sounds there are people that will conspire to harass another simply because they don't like that person. There's something wrong with them in my opinion. You would think they have something to do with their free time, but they don't. If they weren't antagonizing or harrassing others they wouldn't have anything to do. They are what society refers to as the largecavity between the cheeks of a butt. An anus would be nice way of putting it, I guess. Doesn't really matter what you call it, it is what it is.

How do you tell someone they are the word you would use to define someone with a low IQ and no common sense without being offensive? An exceptional jerk? An extraordinary dork? "Excuse me sir, you're an... nevermind.

That's "abuse?" It's wrong to snoop on someone's privacy like that, but "abuse" is pushing it.

Both are wrong here, but the wife much moreso.

Marriage is a union between two people. Generally speaking, you share in all things in life, including credit card debt and so on. Unless you have something to hide, it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. So I can only conclude that you want to cheat, which denies the marriage union. Your life, your choice, just saying that is generally how it works.

Erm, it's a union alright; why does that mean you have to forgo certain freedoms and personal boundaries? Also, being presumptuous like that doesn't really work: people tend to like their privacy, regardless of if they're cheating or not.

Using your logic you should let your spouse into the bathroom with you so they can make sure that you are, in fact, taking a crap. If you don't then obviously you're hiding something.

I'm not saying you always have to, personal time is needed. But, you should be completely open with your spouse, if you really do want to get married. Not saying that is how you should work you marriage, every person and others are different, but if you start throwing up signs and red flags that someone is breaking that trust, don't be surprised if the other investigates it, and they have every right to within reason.

I understand what you're saying, I just got a sort of feeling from your posts that you should submit all your personal things (I consider my passwords to be the epitome of this) to your spouse. Maybe that was drunkardness getting to me, but eh, 'twas what I felt. Apologies to you. You should be open with your spouse, I agree. However, it shouldn't have to extend to password and what have you, a little faith is needed as well in any relationship. I don't think it should be limited to married couples either: everyone should strive to be open as possible to others, in my own view. But that's an aside, and doesn't really matter.

I can't imagine how the prosecution has a case. The article says that the husband is being charged with unauthorized access to a computer to "acquire, alter, damage, delete or destroy property." He clearly has done nothing of the sort.

Totally agree, I like being blunt and vague sometimes because I get interesting responses. My personal philosophy is that I give trust whenever I am in a relationship, and only under extreme circumstances would I start to snoop. AKA, I was about to leave the country for a tour with the Air Force a few years back and was at that time in a serious relationship with a woman. We had actually planned on being engaged(was going to propose when I got back, it was only a month tour for that one) and she knew it and was already making plans. A week before I left, she started to spend the night over at other places and wouldn't come home. First it was her friends, then she said her dad had a asthma attack that sent him to the hospital, etc. I didn't see her the whole week after we had spent everyday with each other for years.

So red flags went up and a day before I was scheduled to leave I went searching at her fathers, he never had a asthma attack. Then I went searching at her moms, she too hadn't seen her. Called a couple of her friends, and finally went over to a mutual friend of ours, who was a dude, and found her there. She was cheating, and long story short, I find that it is unreasonable to try and know everything that goes on in your "others" life, and be crazy controlling, but when flags go up that you can't ignore, it is usually because the other person is doing something wrong and you owe it to yourself to try and find out within reason. I don't think snooping through email is that big of a deal, especially because this couple was married. But hey, that is just what my life has taught me.
