There was no need for the deadly force, there was no threat afterwards. Not exactly self defense.

1st This story is over a year old. 2nd The "article" doesn't try to explain what the basis of the ruling, so it looks biased. 3rd This guy got killed in a gang shooting last summer anyway so its moot.

Chased him for more than a black before stabbing him. That sounds like murder, not self defence

I don't see how this can be "self-defense", sounds more like the stabber committed an offense, but his culpability should be partially mitigated because the burglar provoked him.

It's not murder... The judge ruled it was self defense. Murder is unlawful killing, and while someone was killed, the judge ruled it wasn't unlawful. As such it is not murder. It's best not to twist words.

getting robbed brings out the violent person in you, I personally would not stab a thief but I would beat him up with a baseball bat till he break his hands and would not be able to steal anymore,

Maybe if this happened more often, the world would be a better place. Had the robber been caught, he would have just seen a slap on the wrist only to do it again. Then our tax dollars would have to be paid to incarcerate him.

Maybe, maybe not. I'd like to call Nibroc, TC, and that judge morons, but this story seems to fall in that grey area of the law. Still, if I was a jury on the stand, I'd call it murder myself given the defendants life was no longer in danger when the suspect decided to make a run for it UNLESS that suspect was making a run towards the defendants property....

I have no sympathy for crooks clearly the threat of jail is not a deterent. Even when crooks get caught they just come back out and do the same shit or worse. I also don't get this OMG poor theif is dead crap. How many times must people get robbed before enough is enough.

So the law that says stand your ground allows you to chase after someone and kill them.  That doesn't seem right even if the man were going to rob them.

The real question is what would the people here do??

Seems there is a oh well he ran away to steal another day vibe going on here. Seems like they guys here would not defend their property and just call the police and hope the scum gets caught. Pretty sure by the time you stop to make that call the thief would be gone and your car would be damaged. The answer your most likely looking for is cower in fear and pray for help. Guess I am the bad guy cause I would have shot his ass and called 911.

Guess that makes me evil for having the balls to defend my property in your eyes.

Stabbing someone to death who's running away and who didn't actually steal your stuff isn't "defending your property." That is purely aggressive. And kinda murder.

I don't think murder is an appropriate response to attempted burglary, no. Feel free to continue making cartoonish strawman arguments, though, really helping your credibility.

So now criminals are worth more than my own property? If I have a gun, and there is a man stealing shit from my house, then he will get shot. Simple as that. What am I supposed to do? Let him take it? Call the police as I watch him run away with my stuff?

The value of the object is besides the point. A thief is one of the lowest form of life as far as I am concerned. It would be great if they would allow you to chop a hand off. However the law says all I can do is shoot him. If I beat his ass then he might sue me or I might even go to jail.

He wasn't stealing anything from the house. He was trying to take the stereo from the truck OUTSIDE the house. After running away for a block the guy chased him down and stabbed him. Would you end someone's life over at most a couple of $100's?

So you'd end someone's life for the cost of a car stereo? You're a true hero!

The value of the object is besides the point. A thief is one of the lowest form of life as far as I am concerned. It would be great if they would allow you to chop a hand off. However the law says all I can do is shoot him. If I beat his ass then he might sue me or I might even go to jail.

You're an advert for gun control.

So now criminals are worth more than my own property? If I have a gun, and there is a man stealing shit from my house, then he will get shot. Simple as that. What am I supposed to do? Let him take it? Call the police as I watch him run away with my stuff?

That isn't what happened in this case. Please get a goddamn clue.

I know brah. It was an example. The crimiinal scum shouldn't have tried to steal his stereo. The victim was merely dishing out much deserved Justice.

The improper capitalization really says a lot about the idea of justice as basically an excuse to be a dick because you're mad.

If someone is actively in my house, esp if I feel their is imminent danger, then thats a completely different scenario.

Killing someone over breaking into a car? There is a reason why our government doesn't hand out death sentences for break ins
