i find that comicbook characters have more human personalities while manga characters are alot of times exaggerated making it that much harder to care for the characters. there are obvious exceptions but for the most part, thats why i think that comic book movies do so well. their more believable and much easier to translate their characters into live-action movie form.masterg2kim more for comic books myself but err.... theres alot more "good" manga to anime/movies then there good comic book movies (other then batman they almost all suck and are horrible..)

I have much more experience with manga, so I like it more by default. The only comics I've read significantly are D.M.Z and The Walking Dead.
Manga, as it
A: Not all about super heroes (actually hardly any). I like super heroes, but 90%+ of comics are based around them. thats just ridiculous.
No, thats just stupid. Really why the ***** should one niche genre have a monopoly on a medium.
B: Story Arcs. Comic books (again mostly S. Hero ones) are very episodic and last forever. Manga has a clear beginning, middle, and end.
So I vote manga as they are more like books. Very diverse, and has a clear narative structure.
I prefer manga if only because I have honestly never even held an actual American comic book before in my hands. I was of a microscopic minority of kids growing up that didn't like comic books :o
I only got into manga reading as a passing hobby after I picked up dot Hack//Legend of the Twilight while I was at Universal Studios :P Sampled many since, only Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~ has ever stuck with me.
Comics. I want to start collecting again but I have no ideas where to start.

That depends are you a Marvel or a DC? Quite frankly I find it easier to slip into marvel's universere because these cross over events make it easy. I start out with Darkhorse and mainly read Star Wars Comics but now I've branced out. BTW if caps arn't your thing Dark horse has some good no super hero offereings.
I've dabbling in some comics now and then, but I still mostly read manga (mostly because there's really no convenient way to read comics online *cough cough*).
In general though, I'm finding that comics still have too much of a story-teller type of narrative, with a bit too much narration at times, ie, they still read like a book, whereas manga in general tells much more visually.
manga and anime are popular in western world simply because of their exotic value to the foreign audience.
Manga is quite a bit more diverse.. it's produced for pretty much every demographic, and encompasses a much wider range of genres.
Comics are mostly about superheroes, which I'm not really into, though I know there's stuff like 'The Walking Dead' out there.
[QUOTE="VaguelyTagged"]No people read Manga because they like comics, but they are afraid people will laugh at them for reading comics so they read mangamanga and anime are popular in western world simply because of their exotic value to the foreign audience.

I can't really see the difference... And I personally couldn't care less if someone laughed at me for reading comics...
