1. What is it gay rights movement is fighting for?

Re Definition of Marriage as "Woman and Man" ?

Or Civil Unions?

2. Is a Civil Union the same as a Marriage?

Someone enlighten the topic, thanks.

Apparently, part of the problem with civil unions is that they're only good in the state in which they're given while marriages are good nationwide. That said, let 'em marry!

Marriage is monogamous relationship between a man and a woman. Marriage is a religious ceremony.

A civil union is a marriage only supported by the government but still I do not agree with allowing civil unions between homosexuals. *flame shield*

I don't see why Churches have any say in the matter. I see absolutely no harm in letting homosexuals marry, and it's nobody else's business. Think what they are doing is sinful if you must, but they are not hurting you by doing it. If civil unions are effectively marriages legally, then why not simply calling them marriages, rather than this ridiculously officious term.

I'm indifferent to it. I don't see how two dudes getting married would ever effect me, so I don't see the big deal.

Solution: Ban religious marriages and only allow civil unions as a valid relitionship status.

It's nobody's business who marries or not . IMO church and state should be seperate and the tax laws should apply to every couple who want them, but the marriage thing is up to the Bible bashers and not the government.

I'd then be sent to prison because I will not marry or marry other people unless it is religious. I'd be willing to go to prison for not only this but other moral matters.

But not everyone has the same morals.

As for me, homosexual people aren't looking to legalize gay marriage as much as they're trying to be happy with the fact that they can, legally, be considered married. After all, no one has the right to hold someone from behing happy.

I still can't seem to wrap my head around it...

If you can't give them equal rights then no rights at all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZMf9mPB_nE

I don't like this guy much, and i especially don't like how people say

..." in the world christianity, and islam, and the jews believe in one man and one woman"

no one finds it odd to sa "the jews"

it's like saying "the blacks" or am i being finnicky.

No, I just find it OK for Christians to object gay men and women getting married IN a church but they should not raise issues against the word "marriage". The point here is the civil unions to acquire the same priviliges as a marriage and to be called marriage.

Pride parades irritate me. They want to be treated equally, yet they show their difference by flaunting it at a parade...

Then they shouldn't have a Christian marriage as defined by ... hem... god >__> . What's the problem in having a marriage as people had before Christianity? (not referring to rituals but the meaning behind it which is simply uniting two people who love eahc other)

God is older than Christianity... He is who defines it. Moses wrote about marriage 3500 years ago and even then he mentioned thousands of years of marriage before that.
